The Massachusetts Healthy School Lunch Coalition (MHSLC) was founded in 2020 with a hunger to secure the healthy, equitable, and liveable future all children deserve. We believe that school nutrition and food purchasing are powerful opportunities for achieving that vision. MHSLC brings together students, parents, educators, nutrition and sustainability experts, and policymakers to advance our shared vision of healthy school food for all. It’s Official 📝🫘

The Commonwealth has created a permanent School Meal Nutrition Standards Advisory Council, a collaborative, expert-driven body that builds on the momentum of Universal Free School Meals and the 2023 School Meal Nutrition Standards Commission.

With Massachusetts schools serving over 100 million meals every year, this is a real milestone worth celebrating. We’re eager to work together on what comes next.

A massive THANK YOU to the students, families, school nutrition professionals, advocates, and leaders who made this happen. 💚

The MHSLC was named as a member of the School Meals Nutrition Standards Commission. The Commission provides an opportunity to study current school meals and propose enhanced, health-promoting standards. We are collecting feedback from individuals across the state so we can represent your experiences and ideas.

Sharing some fall food inspiration made by one of our team members using ingredients straight from the farmers market!

Sweet Potato Purée Soup:
- Sweet potato 🍠 (Japanese variety used here)
- Onion 🧅
- Red bell pepper 🫑
- Tomatoes 🍅
- Garlic 🧄
- Coconut milk 🥥
- Desired herbs and spices 🌿 🌶️
- Water 💧

Chop all veggies and place on a baking sheet. Toss in olive oil and salt. Roast in oven at 425F for 35 mins or until sweet potato is tender and starting to brown.

Remove from oven and let partially cool. Place all veggies into blender with coconut milk, herbs and spices. Blend until smooth - add water until desired thickness. Enjoy!
