Looking several years ahead during medicine supply planning helps countries anticipate changing requirements, identify potential bottlenecks, and make informed decisions about limited resources. In , this advance planning is particularly important as funding remains uncertain and as Madagascar moves closer to elimination of lymphatic filariasis.

JSI recently supported Madagascar’s Ministry of Public Health and partners in Antananarivo for a four-day workshop on August 25–28 focused on strengthening the supply chain for medicines used to prevent and treat neglected tropical diseases ( ). Using a new forecasting tool developed by JSI and inSupply Health, participants examined available data, agreed on key forecasting assumptions, identified future needs and potential gaps, and updated the country’s supply plan for lymphatic filariasis, schistosomiasis, and soil-transmitted helminthiasis for 2028 through 2030.

Madagascar’s Ministry of Public Health, the national NTD programs, and the World Health Organization (WHO)’s leadership and active engagement provide a stronger foundation for coordinated planning. JSI is proud to work with these partners to improve supply planning and secure the continued availability of essential NTD medicines for those who need them most.

Hospital labor and delivery units are closing across the United States, leaving families with longer travel times and fewer options for care. Following recent studies in Colorado and Massachusetts evaluating the impact of these closures, we developed best practice guidelines to help states and health systems mitigate gaps in care when a facility shuts down. These guidelines offer clear steps for state oversight, 90-day advance notifications, and coordinated patient transfer plans to prevent gaps in emergency and routine obstetric care.

How do you prevent medicine stockouts at rural health centers? By building a routine culture of data review at the facility level. In Ethiopia, JSI’s Strengthening Service Delivery project partnered with inSupply Health and the Ministry of Health,Ethiopia to pilot Pharmacy Performance Monitoring Teams across 11 health centers.

By bringing together pharmacy staff, supervisors, and data specialists to review monthly stock data and solve delivery bottlenecks, pilot sites increased their inventory accuracy to 95% and significantly reduced waiting times for prescribed medicines. For nearly two decades, a mother of five in Nigeria's Bayelsa State refused vaccines due to a past negative experience. During a community outreach session, JSI health officers had an empathetic, face-to-face conversation with her, addressed her concerns, and helped her make an informed decision to vaccinate her youngest child.

In Nigeria, 19 years of family vaccine refusal came to an end when JSI connected with the family in an empathetic way.

High blood pressure contributes to more than 660,000 deaths in the U.S. each year, and over 1.8 million patients served by community health centers still have uncontrolled hypertension.

Through a new contract awarded by HRSA, JSI is partnering with Arbor Research to help 30 to 50 health centers integrate Self-Measured Blood Pressure monitoring into routine primary care. By offering virtual technical assistance, workflow tools, and community wellness strategies, this project will support health center staff in helping patients manage their blood pressure at home and in their daily lives.

Reaching zero-dose and under-immunized children requires practical evidence, local adaptation, and technical support that responds to country realities.

As the global learning partner for the Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance-funded Zero-Dose Learning Hub ( ) from 2022 to 2026, we worked alongside partners in Bangladesh, Mali, Nigeria, and Uganda to support local evidence generation. By listening to country teams and addressing recurring implementation gaps, JSI created practical toolkits for evaluation, costing, decentralized monitoring, and knowledge translation that can be used across global health programs.

How do country health leaders decide which new vaccines to introduce first?

Through the CHOICES 2.0 project, JSI helped National Immunization Technical Advisory Groups across more than 20 countries evaluate and sequence new vaccines. By providing specialized decision tools, workshops, and virtual training alongside WHO and the University of Cape Town, we helped local teams optimize their national immunization plans.

A study across 10 countries found that school-based HPV vaccination programs against cervical cancer reached 89 percent of enrolled girls, but only 54 percent of out-of-school girls received even a single dose.

Reaching every girl requires deliberate action, adapted systems, and targeted community outreach. The newest brief, Reaching Out-of-School Girls with HPV Vaccination: Practical Actions for Planning and Implementation, draws on evidence across JSI-led HAPPI Consortium’s multi-country work to outline 5 priority action areas.
