“Sudden cardiac arrest” and “heart attack” are often used interchangeably, but they are not the same emergency.

A heart attack is a circulation problem caused by blocked blood flow to the heart muscle.

Sudden cardiac arrest is an electrical problem where the heart suddenly stops beating effectively. Someone in cardiac arrest will suddenly collapse, become unresponsive, and not breathe normally.

⚡ Sudden cardiac arrest requires immediate action because you only have minutes to treat: call 911, begin CPR, and use an AED as soon as it is available, following its prompts.

Today marks 25 years since September 11, 2001.

This Philips HeartStart defibrillator was recovered from the World Trade Center following the attacks that day. Today, it serves as a quiet reminder of a moment in history we will never forget.

We pause to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost, honor the courage of the first responders and all those who stepped forward to help, and hold in our thoughts the families and communities forever changed by that day.
