This grasshopper has been living in my garden for days. I have loved seeing it and connecting with it.

Last night, I shared this wonderful moment with it, where it rested on a marigold I had grown from seed.

I thought to myself, “If I hadn’t planted those seeds, this marigold wouldn’t have been here, and the grasshopper may not have been here either.” I gave the grasshopper a place to live and explore.

Tonight, I came home to the grasshopper passed away on a marigold.

I was sad to see my garden friend this way.

I buried them in the new marigold bed that has hundreds of marigolds seedlings started in it. It seemed like the appropriate resting place for a grasshopper that loved my marigolds so much.

Tonight I was out in the garden, in the rain, at 7pm shoveling up soil that I had top dressed with organic, non-toxic fertilizer.

It was my first time using fertilizer. I thought I knew what I was doing when I sprinkled it around. I clearly still have a lot to learn.

There were a lot of wins to be had in the garden tonight: green beans and peas almost ready to harvest, some plants looking revived from fertilizer, and getting to watch my sweet grasshopper friend rest in the rain on a marigold I grew from seed.

And yet, in the end, the thing I felt the most was heartbreak about the hurt I’d caused my zinnias and calendula.

Gardening is a great reminder to be gentle with yourself. But for now, I will let these feelings of disappointment and frustration be.

I always develop a deep relationship with the land, and the land I live on and spirits I connect with there intricately impact my creativity and self-expression.

It’s not that Wild Radiance Collective doesn’t exist anymore. It’s that it’s not at the forefront any longer. And rather than try to shape it into something it’s not, it’s going to lie in wait, unbothered for a time while I wait to see what comes forth about it.

As for Mushroom & Moth, there’s so much more to say and share, but for now:

✨ Mushroom & Moth emerged from the land I live on and the spirits I connect with here
✨ I connected with the Marigold as a spirit guide, and am always returning to the Marigold and my joy to guide me through my transformation
✨ Ravens took up residence near my home on the Summer Solstice and I started to experience some unexpected momentum in my personal and creative evolution
✨ I stopped trying to control everything during times of uncertainty about Wild Radiance Collective and chose faith in what I’m creating out of nothing

So perhaps I haven’t given you the solid answers that some prefer, but these are the answers I have. 🧡

I confirmed that it was a fisher cat that ran through my yard the other day.

On the one side, I felt renewed fear about my chickens safety.

On the other side, I was relieved that we had already redesigned and got the materials for a new extra super predator proof chicken coop and run.

I know I will still have to live in fear, and I may lose chickens along the way. But knowing we did everything we could to prevent it with hardware cloth, a trench, a lot of heart and more will help me persevere. ❤️🐓

My first herb harvest this season was one of those calm, cool, relaxing times in the morning where everything is slow and quiet before the intensity of the summer heat takes the day.

I said hello to lots of bugs and spiders, trying carefully not to disrupt resting bugs and spiders while harvesting.

I harvested:

Oregano
Sage
Basil
Lavender
Mint
and even some kale!

While we ate the kale and used some fresh basil for salads, the rest I immediately prepared for drying.

I made these drying racks out of repurposed wood, and hung them in the dining room.

I know hanging dried herbs and flowers on these racks is going to be really supportive to be around over the winter. I plan to leave the last harvest of the season hanging on the rack during the winter months. Then I will return them to the earth at the beginning of next season in gratitude and appreciation.

Last winter was an especially hard and long winter for me, so I am doing everything I can now to prep for a cozy, relaxing, and loving environment to be in all winter.

Logan has absolutely fallen in love with the chickens. He wants to hangout with them, snuggle them, sit on the couch and watch movies with them… all the things.

He gets sad when they want to peck around instead of sitting with him. This little love has such a big heart.

I love how farmhouse life and now homesteading brings out different parts of your child’s personality you might have not otherwise known.

Feels like life as it should be. Simple, hard working, and full of love ❤️

I got comfy cozy tonight and then hung out with the chickens while I opened my new illustrated poem book by my friend Herbal Bones Art & Wellness

Megan is a weaver of words and stunning artist. She takes so much care in packaging her items up for delivery, and she always sends extra bonus treats!

The chickies and I had a lot of fun opening this gorgeous piece of work together.
