How To Read Your Baby Partners In Parenting Education

PIPE is a research-based curriculum. Models developed by Liz Bates, T. The curriculum is not developmentally sequenced.

Berry Brazelton, Robert Emde, Stanly Greenspan, Louis Sanders, Allen Sroufe, Edward Tronic, and Lev Vygotsky serve as the theoretical framework for the PIPE curriculum. Instead, it presents concepts through a variety of topics. For example, in the topic “Playing Is Learning” the focus is on how children learn and master skills while playing. Concepts presented in the topics apply to children from

birth to 3 years of age. The three units of the curriculum can be summarized as follows: Listen, Listen, Listen focuses on emotional communication, regulation skills, and respecting the baby as an individual. Love Is Layers of Sharing focuses on attachment and relationship building. Playing Is Learning focuses on play as a way children learn and the importance of emotional stability for learning.

Yesterday may have been National Tea Day, but it’s never too late to pour into yourself! ☕️💜

As you learn to read your baby’s cues, whether it be those little looks or the many different sounds and signals, it’s just as important to tune into your own. Consider this as your gentle reminder to step out, sip something warm, and reconnect with a friend for a little emotional refueling.

Because when you feel supported and refreshed, you’re better able to show up, connect, and respond to your little one in all the ways that matter most. 💫

Parenting takes real emotional energy and it’s normal to run low. When parents rest, laugh, learn, and give themselves grace, they recharge the energy their kids rely on.

Caring for yourself is caring for your child. Fill your cup and fuel your joy!

For babies and toddlers, tolerance develops when caregivers stay close and supportive during moments of frustration, difference, or overwhelm. When adults remain calm, patient, and accepting, children learn that big feelings, new experiences, and challenges are safe to move through together. Today’s layer is TOLERANCE. 🙌🏼💜

TOLERANCE: “My parents have needs too. I guess I’ll put up with them.”
Learned by experiencing patient, responsive caregiving, a parent’s temperament, and the limits parents set to meet their own needs.

Babies and toddlers are still learning how to manage big feelings, and they rely on calm, responsive caregivers to help them do it. Through soothing voices, gentle touch, and consistent support, children borrow regulation from the adults around them. Today’s layer is REGULATION. 💜

REGULATION: “Whoa! There are rules to this relationship stuff!”
Learned by having gentle guidance and limits from other humans. Regulation helps babies balance emotions and behavior that are out of control. Parents who model emotional control are effective regulators for babies and toddlers.

For babies and toddlers, respect is felt when caregivers slow down, follow their lead, and honor their cues even before words are used. It’s in the gentle pauses, the choices offered, and the consistent responses that say, “You matter.” Today’s layer is RESPECT. 🤝💜

RESPECT: “I’m separate, I’m me! Help me problem solve. Let me grow.”
Learned from being allowed autonomy, having parents who allow exploring and problem solving. Like adults, babies and toddlers need feelings of independence and mastery.

For babies and toddlers, interdependence means discovering that they can rely on their caregivers—and that their caregivers also respond to them. Through everyday moments like reaching to be held, offering a toy, or looking back for reassurance, children learn that connection is a two-way experience. Today’s layer is INTERDEPENDENCE. 💬💜

INTERDEPENDENCE: “I’ve picked out my special people, my loved ones.”
Learned from having consistent, loving people around. As babies mature, they become able to pick out their special people and show their attachment to them.
