CAMP REWIND: Camp Abilities Long Beach blasted off in April 2026 for their second year of camp hosted by Long Beach State APE! They were one of the 8 lucky camps to receive a Camp Abilities World grant and used their funds to purchase goalball equipment. The sport was introduced by Dr. Nicole Kirk who is a professor from the University of Georgia and the U.S. Association of Blind Athletes - USABA Women's Goalball Coach. Many of their athletes had never tried goalball before, so it was a perfect opportunity to expand their horizons! The camp partners with the Los Angeles Unified School District to host athletes as CALB's mission is to support students with sensory impairments participate in physical activity. 25 athletes, 30 volunteers, and 1 full day of making memories for a lifetime! Congratulations on another successful year Camp Abilities Long Beach and look forward to seeing all the amazing things you do next year!

Photos include a group photo of athletes and coaches, athletes learning how to block in goalball, and an athlete throwing the ball. The additional photos are two coaches and staff smiling wearing their black and yellow CALB tie dye shirts.

Did you hear? Our very own Camp Abilities World Board Member, Evan Schwerbrock, became the first blind person to lift the The Dinnie Stones in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Weighing a total of 733 pounds, Evan has trained for months and knocked out his goal earlier this month! He says, "Why do I love doing this stuff? First, I love lifting rocks. Secondly, it helps build up the rest of the blind community and shows the rest of society what we are truly capable of." We are so proud of you and appreciate you advocating for Camp Abilities World and other Camp Abilities. Check out Evan's lift on his IG at or Facebook and TikTok at Cane and Able Fitness.

Here's a heartwarming story we wanted to share with you.

Henry is an 11-year-old boy who was recently diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP), a rare genetic disorder that causes the gradual loss of vision. For Henry, this progression has been unusually fast, and he is already losing much of the limited vision he has left. At just 11 years old, Henry has already begun preparing for a world where his vision will be very limited. As a result, efforts are being made to help Henry see and experience all the things on his bucket list and beyond.

His mom's Instagram post (https://www.instagram.com/p/DbLSLiUFlYn/?img_index=1) highlights a visit to a Banana Ball game, made possible by none other than CAS President, Jim Edwards, and helping Henry experience the fun of a highly energetic and entertaining day of "baseball."
