Nerve block first, RFA second. For certain types of chronic neck pain, a diagnostic nerve block temporarily numbs specific nerves to see if they’re responsible for the pain.

If the patient gets significant relief, RFA may be the next step. It targets those same nerves with radiofrequency energy to reduce pain signals for a longer period and help the patient stay active.
