Social Work Diva was founded by La Shawn Marie Paul, LCSW in December 2011. Our mission is to provide private pay psychotherapy services, using various therapeutic modalities, for the empowerment of young woman in the pursuit of positive ideas and values necessary for a healthy self image.

Honored and grateful!

I’m proud to share that I’ve been named a 2026 CRISP Award recipient for Outstanding Individual in Business and Philanthropy by the Congressional Research Institute for Social Work and Policy.

As a self-proclaimed micro social work girlie working at the intersection of macro work, this moment means a lot. The work has always been about bridging communities, systems, and impact.

Thankful for the mentors, collaborators, and communities that make this work possible. The mission continues.

Whew! What a week!

From the BIPOC Brainspotting Intensive in Atlanta, to being honored at the National Urban League Young Professional Honors in Cleveland, now back home in New York to rest, reflect, and recharge, I feel full.

This journey has reignited my passion and reminded me why this work matters. From healing spaces to leadership rooms, from wellness to advocacy, we are building futures rooted in joy, justice, and liberation.

Receiving this honor was deeply affirming and humbling. I carry it with pride and responsibility with a renewed spirit and deep gratitude.

To every soul I crossed paths with this week: thank you.

To those creating change, building community, and holding space: keep going.

📉 Black Women Deserve More!!!

Black women earn only 64 cents for every dollar a white man makes. The impact goes beyond income. It affects our mental and emotional health.

💭 Constant stress from being underpaid
💼 Overworked and overlooked
🧠 Higher rates of anxiety, burnout, and depression
🧾 Less access to mental health care

This is not just a wage gap but a gap in overall well-being!

Pay Black women. Respect their work. Protect their mental health.

Together, we demand better.

On the last day of Mental Health Awareness Month, I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve officially earned my Perinatal Mental Health Certification (PMH-C) from Postpartum Support International.

This certification equips me with specialized training to better support individuals and families through the unique mental health challenges that arise during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period.

Perinatal mental health is a deeply personal and important area of care, and I’m proud to contribute to this field with greater knowledge and compassion while centering Black Women in this work!

Thank you to for creating Birthing Black and making the pathway to certification accessible for those serving our community. Forever grateful for your vision and leadership!

Starting July 1, 2025, Social Work Diva will be offering in-person psychotherapy sessions on Saturdays, centering Black Women and Girls, at the Brooklyn Wellness Club, located at 704 DeKalb Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11216.
