I love desserts (fun fact: I used to be a food writer & had a dessert blog). However, eating a lot of sweets over time weakened my spleen, which as a Chinese medicine organ system is responsible for digesting your food to make qi & blood.
Eating so many sweets contributed to feeling fatigued, bloated, tired after meals, and a continued craving for sweets, which is a sign that your spleen is deficient.
The go to for sweet flavors is ice cream, cake, candy, but the real sweet your body needs is the naturally sweet, less processed version you find in rice, sweet potato, and fruit.
Rather than eating as many desserts, I prioritized eating warm, cooked meals 3x a day. I limit myself to how many sweets I add on when grocery shopping, focusing more on eating enough protein along with veggies. I gradually noticed that when I eat my meals properly, my craving for sweets is less because my body is getting the nourishment it needs.
Do I still love desserts? Heck yes 🤣 but now I do it in moderation and prioritize my 3 meals as a baseline.
This took a long time to shift so I am aware of the challenges people face when making lifestyle shifts. However the result is so worth it because you get healthier life & more energy to do the things that you care about 💗 now that’s sweet.
