Homemade Kefir Sourdough Bread!

Meet the newest addition to our fam! When it’s alive and it shows up daily, we consider it family! This bread even ups the sourdough game! It is soft, with a firm crust and an unbelievable flavor. We will be serving this bread out here on the farm for our Saturday morning Homemade Kefir Workshop. If you have already been to both of these workshops, comment “recipe” and I will DM you the tweeks.

With the addition of homemade kefir (store bought kefir will not perform like this, just FYI) this bread contains extra B vitamins (B is for Brain), calcium and easily digested proteins/fats that partially carry through. Through the bulk fermentation process, postbiotics are created which is the result of prebiotics + probiotics.

Homemade kefir will also naturally preserve your bread longer, so it molds more slowly. And remember the diverse set of microorganisms do the same inside of you.

Here is the new schedule for our upcoming fermentation workshops both out here on the farm & beyond. This Saturday, June 13th, we are back to the beginning with our homemade kefir workshop. There are just a few spots left for this one, so if you’d like to join us, please follow the link below. Homemade kefir is the foundation of a cultured lifestyle. There are so many ways to use it and can be used in so many recipes. We’ll be sharing samples of these in our class. Here is our upcoming schedule for our fermentation workshops both out here on the farm and beyond 🕺🏻. This Saturday 6/06, is our Fermented Vegetables workshop where you will create your own unique jar of probiotic veggies teeming with life! They are so powerful that all you need is a forkful a day. Culturing vegetables is the only preservation method that adds nutrients to your food. This process also removes harmful chemicals like glyphosate within seven days. Here are our upcoming workshops, both out here on the farm and on the road! We are having a blast with you all, creating microbe-rich foods and drinks that change you from the inside out💪. And just so you know, metabolic health is an inside job🕺🏻. When we enhance our health with beneficial microbes found in fermented foods, we inevitably start to feel better because these microbes are our protectors, our detoxifiers and our energy boosters. But they need to be there in order to do their job. There’s no magic pill that can emulate their power. This is food that is better with a little education and we are here to help. 🌾 It was a gorgeous morning in the most beautiful place to gather wild yeasts for our homemade sourdoughs — straight from the trees, the soil, and the breeze.

Think of your sourdough starter as a living snapshot of the current microbial makeup of your home. It draws strength from other living foods and more ferments on your counter… and it can be weakened by harsh chemicals we use to “clean” our spaces.

What you’re building is an incredible tool for optimal health. Make it as vibrant and viable as possible.

And remember: when you’re immersed in that living dough, it’s a two-way street — an exchange of microbes. What’s on your hands goes into the dough… and what’s in the dough makes its way to your skin, strengthening your skin microbiome too.

So go forth and make the best living bread for your health. Keep more microbe-rich foods living on your counter. Use fewer harsh chemicals where you eat and prepare food.

It all creates a more diverse ecosystem — in your starter, in your kitchen, and in your own internal personal army.

Little by little (literally microscopically) we are building a fortress. 💪

In our modern world of processed foods, convenience, and disconnection from nature, few skills are more important — or more empowering — than mastering the ancient art of crafting artisanal sourdough bread.
It’s not just bread — it’s a Living Culture 😊 that connects us directly to our ancestors. For thousands of years, humans have nurtured wild yeasts and beneficial bacteria in their starters, creating loaves alive with microbes that mirror the very microbiome inside our own bodies.
This “living bread” pre-digests the grains, making it gentler on your gut, easier to absorb nutrients from, and deeply nourishing in a way mass-produced bread never can. It’s a beautiful daily reminder of the symbiotic relationship between our bodies and the microbial world that sustains us.

Love this definition! What if we thought of our bodies this way? To maintain in conditions suitable for growth. We would be more mindful of what causes this growth and how to enable it further. This is why cultured foods are so powerful. They grow the disease-fighting, immune boosting, healing microbes for you. This is the part of you that outnumbers human genes by about 10:1. All you have to do is eat (or drink) them! They’ll do the rest! 🙏
