On December 21, 2024, members of the National Federation of the Blind, RGV Chapter, along with participants from the RGV CLASS Mentoring Program, had a fantastic opportunity to go fishing. This event was organized by Daniel Martinez in coordination with the Brownsville Parks and Recreation Department's ADA Coordinator, ensuring an inclusive and accessible experience for everyone involved. The day was filled with camaraderie as attendees enjoyed fishing while connecting with blind mentors, nature and one another. Overall, the turnout was impressive, showcasing the community's commitment to supporting individuals with visual impairments in enjoying recreational activities.Thank you to Brownsville Bate and Tackle shop for their donation and specially to all of the volunteers!

Hello everyone,

Wee wanted to share some highlights from the recent NFB of Texas state conference, “Moving Forward: The Impact of Independent Travel On School, Work And Daily Living,” attended by Daniel and our CLASS students: Ashton, Randy, and Fernando.

During the weekend, Daniel asked the students about their key takeaways, and here’s what they shared:

They had the opportunity to connect with blind mentors who are successfully living the lives they want.

The exhibit hall provided a chance to explore innovative technology and resources for the blind community.

The students were inspired by speakers who shared their personal travel experiences.

They had the chance to travel independently alongside scholarship winner Erik Hernandez.

It was a fantastic weekend
