There was a segment on Newscenter Channel 6 this evening highlighting the new regulations surrounding IV infusion services and the challenges they are creating for IV infusion businesses throughout the state of Maine.
Patient safety has always been, and will always remain, my top priority and the foundation of the care I provide. I fully support regulations that protect patients and promote safe, high-quality care.
At the same time, the new requirements have significantly increased the costs associated with providing IV infusion services. Continuing to offer these treatments while maintaining a reasonable and accessible price for patients has become increasingly difficult. The additional products, services, and resources now required substantially increase my operating costs, and ultimately, those costs would have to be passed along to the customer.
As a small business owner, I have a difficult decision to make. I want to continue providing this service to my community, but I also don’t feel comfortable significantly increasing my prices to offset these additional expenses.
I believe there is a way to prioritize patient safety while also creating thoughtful regulations that allow patients continued access to care and allow small healthcare businesses to remain viable.
