It’s not cynicism. It’s not a character flaw. Your brain is simply doing exactly what it was designed to do—scan for what’s wrong, identify threats, and keep you safe. The problem is, it’s working with ancient wiring in a modern world. But, the simplest possible practice for creating real balance is totally within your reach. It takes seconds, and you can start right now. Give it a try and let me know how it works out

A Quiet Antidote to a Very Loud World:
If you are fed up with the noise—the misinformation, the AI slop, the endless manipulation—I understand. But there are two kinds of truth worth looking for, and the one that matters most doesn’t live online. It lives in a great novel, a long walk in the woods, a deep breath, and the still small voice you never knew was talking. Save this one for the next time the internet gets to be too much & be well.

Stop Identifying With Your Thoughts, They Only Define You If You Let Them

If you’ve ever felt completely overwhelmed by your own thinking, this one’s for you. Your thoughts are how you steer the ship. But they are not the ship itself. You are so much more than what’s running through your mind right now.

Intrusive thoughts. Anxious thoughts. Overwhelming thoughts. They can feel all-consuming—but they are not you. In this video I offer a quick, gentle, grounding reminder about the difference between the thoughts you have and the person you are. What if you applied the same standards of your most important relationships to your relationship with yourself?

It’s offers a simple but genuinely helpful reframe: if the way you speak to yourself, prioritize yourself, and care for yourself was how someone else spoke to, prioritized, and cared for you, would that be a relationship you’d want to stay in?

This is one of the most important questions in personal growth and holistic wellness. And the answer you give points directly to the work that matters most—how you value yourself and navigate your own internal landscape. Watch. Think honestly. And let me know in the comments what comes up for you.

SO much ocean life lives in the shallow coastal zone. The in-between—that narrow, complicated space that isn’t quite land and isn’t quite the deep sea.
That’s where all the life is.

Our most important moments work the same way. The transitions and moments when one chapter has clearly ended but the next hasn’t quite begun tend to feel the most uncomfortable—and they’re also where we grow the most, discover the most, and find ourselves most fully.

If you’re in one of those spaces right now, let me know in the comments and be well!

Thank you to Lake Erie for playing the role of an ocean in the video. And yes, the plural of octopus really is octopuses. The word octopus comes from Greek, not Latin (and Latin based words are generally the ones that end in “i” when plural)

I want to offer some myth busting and a little gentle correction for all of us about OCD. Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder affects millions of people, and yet many of us jokingly or casually use it to describe tidiness or quirky perfectionism. In this video I talk about what OCD actually is, why the casual use of the term matters, and how choosing our words with a little more care is an act of kindness for everyone involved—both others and ourselves. Be well!

Sometimes we have to look back in order to move forward. Finding joy-filled moments in our past that we can connect to our present is a perfect way to do exactly that. AND, when we do this daily, we start to train our minds to automatically find happiness as it unfolds. So give this little practice a try for 7 days and see where it takes you. I guarantee that your week will feel a bit brighter and more fulfilling.

And, if you haven’t watched my previous video about finding happiness, give it a look. (It’s all about inviting a sense of play into your life in order to gain perspective and find more happiness.)

Be well!

When I was a kid, if something was hiding from me, it was a game. The thrill of the search!

At some point we grow up and suddenly if something is hiding... it’s a negative experience.

What if we brought that childhood energy back, and went looking for joy the same way?

What’s hiding from you, and how might you seek it? Be well.

Specificity Can Transform Your Communication and Your Mind

One of the simplest things you can do to show up more fully—in conversation, in relationships, and in your own mind—is also one of the most overlooked: Be. Specific.

It might surprise you how far this little idea goes. We spend so much energy fighting our own minds, when all we really need is a little honest, gentle accountability.

Let me know in the comments: where do you tend to generalize—about others or about yourself?
And be well!
