Symptoms are messengers, as Reiki in the Valley so beautifully puts it, and I think that's especially true for hormonal symptoms. ⚖

Contrary to the narrative many of us have been taught from childhood, our hormones are not out to get us. 🙅‍♀️

Excruciating cramps, cyclic acne, or cycles that are all over the map are not the inevitable curse of being a woman - they're your body's way of telling you that something is out of balance. 🕵‍♀️

Of course, it may not feel that way on day 1 of your period when you're curled up in the fetal position with your hot water bottle and sobbing your heart out to The Vampire Diaries - and I completely honour that 🤕

There's a time and place to just be with the symptoms and help yourself get through it 💜

But there's also a time and place to tune in, to listen, and then, when you're ready, to do something about it 🙌

The start of this year was one of those revelations for me, and I invite you to read the full story on my blog - link below! 💙

The start of 2022 has been a mixed bag for me, tbh 🥳🙃

On the one hand, there are some big things happening soon in my life and my career that I'm really excited about 🍾

But on the other, I just haven't been feeling my best (hence the working in bed with my very helpful assistant) 🤕

And I know I've been feeling off because there's still some work I need to do on my gut health and even my own hormones ⚖

To be fair, I feel light-years ahead of where I used to be - those days of being in the fetal position on the floor in pain and having no idea what to do are thankfully long gone 🥴

But, despite all the work I've put in so far, I'm still not quite where I want to be 🧐

And I realized that this not feeling well is a sign - but as the founder of our nutrition school taught us, what a sign tells you is really up to you 🕵‍♀️

These digestive and hormonal symptoms could be telling me that:

🙅‍♀️ a) I'm still not where I want to be, so I'll probably never feel better and maybe I should just give up

OR
🙌 b) this was the universe asking me if I wanted to spend another year feeling this way, or if I was ready to do something about it

Before I started my health journey, I would've said option a) all the way 👎

I was defeated, miserable, and felt like I was out of options 😥

Now, I know I've just scratched the surface of what I can do and that feeling this way is my sign that it's time to move forward in whatever way I need to so that I can keep feeling better 🎉

If you feel like you're waiting for a sign that it's time to do something about your hormonal symptoms - this can be it 💜

I know that some of the new year's goals can feel cheesy, but I think there's something quite profound in taking the first step to changing your life for the better 🥰

So if you're feeling called to work on your hormones this year, I invite you to reach out! I'd love to chat with you to help you figure out how to get started (even if it starts with working in bed with your cat 🤷‍♀️)

Too bad I can't just ask Santa to balance my hormones 😂🎄

Even though I love seeing the cheery holiday lights and enjoying some seasonal treats (Christmas morning mimosas, I'm looking at you), the fact remains that it's easy for this time of year to wreak havoc on our hormones 🤕

When our routines are disrupted by things like:
🏃‍♀️ less movement
💤 less sleep
and
🍪🍷different foods and drinks than normal,

it can trigger an increase in hormonal symptoms like PMS bloating, mood swings, and painful period cramps.

🙅‍♀️ But - I don't think you need to be a Scrooge and miss out on all the fun.

💜 Instead, I recommend adding in self-care to carry yourself through the schedule disruption and holiday stress.

⚖ And my #1 (and often overlooked) tip for self-care and happy hormones is to balance your blood sugar.

🍩 We often think about blood sugar only in the context of diabetes, but the truth is, everyone can benefit from keeping their blood sugar stable throughout the day.

✅ And blood sugar balance is a crucial first step in laying the foundation for hormone balance.

🎄 For 3 easy steps to help you keep both your blood sugar and your hormones happy through the holidays, I invite you to check out my new blog post here:
