Hydration ≠ More Milk 💧🍼

Three drinks for my day, and none of them are a gallon jug of water. 😂

One of the biggest breastfeeding myths I hear is: “If I drink more water, I’ll make more milk.”

But hydration doesn’t work that way.

Your body is incredibly good at regulating milk production. Drinking beyond your thirst won’t magically increase your milk supply. In fact, forcing excessive amounts of water can leave you feeling uncomfortable and, in extreme cases, can actually throw off your electrolyte balance.

Instead, think adequate hydration + nourishment.

💧 Drink to thirst and keep fluids readily available.
⚡ Electrolytes can be helpful, especially if you’re sweating, sick, or simply struggling to keep up with fluid needs.
🥣 Bone broth can provide fluid along with electrolytes, protein, and minerals.
🥛 Milk, smoothies, soups, and other fluids count toward hydration too!

And remember; hydration is about supporting YOUR body—not forcing your body to make more milk.

Your milk supply is primarily driven by effective and frequent milk removal, not how many ounces of water you can force yourself to drink.

So put down the giant water bottle for a minute. 😂
Take a drink when you’re thirsty. Eat something nourishing. Get your electrolytes when you need them.

You don’t have to drown yourself to breastfeed. 💕

‼️‼️PLEASE READ‼️‼️

😂 “Can I just ask you a quick breastfeeding question?”

Sure! And then 17 messages later, I’m basically doing a full lactation consult in your Facebook Messenger. 😂

Here’s the thing…

I LOVE helping. I genuinely do. If I can point you toward a helpful resource or answer a general question, I’m happy to!

But when the question becomes:

“Why is my baby doing this?”
“Is my supply low?”
“Should I pump more?”
“Why does breastfeeding hurt?”
“Is this normal?”
“What should I change?”

…that’s no longer just a “quick tip.” 😅

Because I can’t responsibly give individualized lactation advice based on a few messages. I need the whole picture. Baby’s age, weight gain, feeding patterns, diapers, your supply, pumping, pain, medical history, goals… ALL the things.

And honestly? You deserve better than a guess from me in the DMs.

When you book a consultation, you’re not paying me for five minutes of advice.

You’re paying for my education, training, experience, assessment, clinical reasoning, resources, follow-up, and time.

And yes… this is my job. ❤️

I am incredibly blessed to get to do something I love AND provide for my family doing it.

So if I respond to your message with, “I’d love to help! Let’s get you scheduled for a consultation,” please know I’m not being rude.

I’m not trying to gatekeep breastfeeding information.

And I’m definitely not sitting over here rubbing my hands together thinking, “HAHA! Another mom I can charge!” 😂

I’m simply recognizing when a question needs professional, individualized care rather than a quick Facebook answer.

Free information? Absolutely.
Free personalized clinical care? That’s where I have to draw the line.

Because my time has value, your situation deserves attention, and my family deserves a paycheck. 💗

And I think we can all agree that moms deserve an IBCLC who has enough time and energy left after work to go home and be a mom, too. 😉

✨ LEARN. ASK. GET THE SUPPORT YOU NEED. ✨

I’m putting together a special day for moms who want breastfeeding education AND a little personalized support!

🍼 Breastfeeding Class + Mini Lactation Consults

We’ll start with an educational class where we’ll talk about the things you really want to know—latching, milk supply, pumping, newborn feeding, common challenges, and how to feel confident in your feeding journey.

Then, after class, you’ll have the opportunity to sign up for a mini one-on-one lactation consult with me to talk through your specific questions or concerns. ❤️

This is perfect if you:
✨ Are expecting and want to feel prepared
✨ Are a new mom and have questions
✨ Are struggling with latch, pumping, or supply
✨ Just want reassurance that things are going well
✨ Want professional support without committing to a full consult

Space will be limited for both the class and mini consults!

📅 Tuesday September 22nd
📍 Alpha Chiropractic
⏰ 1pm
💰 $25 class fee, $50 consult fee

Come learn, ask questions, and leave feeling a little more confident in your breastfeeding journey. 🫶
