How you birth is a personal choice, and occasionally a choice made by circumstances beyond your control.

When it comes to preparation, information about recovery can help you make informed decisions and know what to expect.

Every single birth and recovery are unique. Some have vaginal births and a difficult recovery. Others have a surgical birth and smooth recoveries.

However, 100% of c-section births are surgical recoveries and it's important to be aware of what surgery can entail. With vaginal births, sometimes there are no complications, tears, etc.

👇🏽 How was your birth recovery?

End of life care isn’t talked about enough, but something we all come to need one day. The talk can be scary and uncomfortable, but it is necessary. I am here to educate and inform everyone about options for all stages of life.

Needing support, care, and guidance during birth does NOT equal needing someone to tell you what to do.

Birth is POWERFUL. Birth is INTENSE. Birth does NOT require permission.

"Can I get up?"
"May I eat?"
"Am I allowed to push?"

Women giving birth shouldn't feel like they need to ask those things. "I need to get up. I'm hungry. I feel like I need to push."

Prenatal care, midwives, OBs, nurses, should create a space where birthing people feel CONFIDENT to say what they need.

"You need to lay down."
"You're not allowed to push yet. Wait for the doctor."
"We don't allow people to...."

Women don't need permission to birth. They need space. They need support. They need guidance with respect for autonomy.

Did you feel empowered by your birth? Or did you feel like others were in charge of you?

Statement from the DONA International Board of Directors:

DONA International affirms the fundamental right of every birthing person to autonomy, dignity, and informed decision-making in their care.

We believe that all individuals have the right to make decisions about their own bodies, including the right to give or withhold consent for medical procedures. Respect for bodily autonomy is a cornerstone of ethical, respectful, and evidence-based care.

DONA International supports care models that center informed consent, shared decision-making, and respect for the values, preferences, and lived experiences of birthing people. Every individual deserves to be heard, to be fully informed, and to participate actively in decisions regarding their care.

We remain committed to advancing practices that uphold these principles and to supporting doulas in promoting respectful, person-centered care in every birth setting.

Let’s be honest!

Trying to navigate the healthcare system can feel overwhelming, confusing, and sometimes even intimidating. Something I was reminded of this weekend with my own family and have often seen firsthand how patients and families feel unheard, rushed, or unsure of what questions to ask.

That’s where patient advocacy matters. I’ve always felt like I stepped in and took up for my patients. Let me help you.

You deserve to understand your care. You deserve to feel confident in your decisions. And you deserve someone in your corner.

As part of my work through Ingle Haven, I’m now offering free 30-minute phone consultations to help guide you through:
• Understanding diagnoses or care plans
• Preparing for appointments or hospital stays
• Knowing your rights as a patient
• Advocating for yourself or a loved one

You don’t have to figure it all out alone.

If you or someone you love could use a little extra support, message me to schedule. 🤍

Did you know that birth doulas work in a variety of settings? Not just home births, contrary to popular belief!

Birth doulas adapt to each environment while providing the same continuous care, comfort, and reassurance throughout labor, whether that be at home, in birthing center, or a hospital.💪🏽

Their support isn’t tied to a location; it’s centered on the needs and desires of the family.

As part of our February series, ‘Birth Support, Explained,’ we went back to basics on what birth doula support is; thank you for following along with us.💜

What else would you like to know about birth doulas?💭
