Thinking back to National Minority Mental Health Month and the overlap with perimenopause symptoms.

It's rough out here sometimes. I see you and I am holding space for you.

A little Monday motivation and transparent moment rolled into one.

The past few weeks have been "interesting." πŸ‘€

Through it all, I learned that even if....God still has a plan for me and its working for my good.

What is the option when you find yourself in tough times? Keep going, keep moving forward. πŸ₯° Do it afraid!

5 things I hear from women in my practice along with the truth 😳

Our grandmother's and mothers deserved to know this a long time ago.

I am sharing now, so you will know.

Admin Night is almost here! πŸ’œ

Two hours. Your laptop, your paperwork, your to do list and a room full of women doing the same thing, together.

No agenda to perform. No small talk required.

Just space, quiet company, and the kind of momentum that shows up when you're not doing it alone.

Bring what's been sitting in your inbox. Bring the forms you've been avoiding. Bring yourself.
This is open to every woman in Charlotte, you don't have to be a patient to belong in this room.

Yes. Perimenopause can start in your late 30s. We didn't learn this when I trained in medical school.

Nobody is telling my patients either. We have to consider a full differential.βš•οΈ

So if you've been exhausted, foggy, anxious, not sleeping AND your labs are normal......that answer is not wrong, it's just an incomplete picture.

Perimenopause is not one dramatic event. It is a gradual shift, and it can begin years before your cycle ever changes. Your symptoms are real, even on days the bloodwork doesn't catch up to what you're feeling.

You deserve a physician who knows what is happening and what to do next.

Men's Health Month is coming to a close. I want to talk to the men who've been quietly pushing through.

Hormonal decline in men is real, it's measurable, and it's treatable. For some men, that includes physician-prescribed hormone therapy, not a shortcut, but one part of a whole-person plan that gets to the root of what's changed.

You don't have to just live with it.πŸ’œ

Vulnerable moment.😌

Yesterday I got to spend time with the kids at Kid Doc Camp, teaching them all about the digestive system. And I almost missed it.
I'd had this on my calendar for months. I was given an opportunity to cancel because I didnt get the final details. It would have been so easy to let it go.

I'm so glad I didn't.

Those babies were INTO it. Asking questions. Taking notes. Leaning in to learn how their own bodies work. I left that room so full.πŸ₯°

I get so much joy from being out in the community, and there's nothing quite like it when I get to be with the kids. Planting seeds. Letting them see a physician who looks like them, talks to them like they matter, and makes the body feel like something worth being curious about.

This blessed me more than it blessed them. I'm sure of it.

She brought it up at the very end of the visit, almost like she was apologizing for it.

"Oh, I keep forgetting words in the middle of my sentences. That's probably just stress though, right?"

It usually isn't just stress.

Brain fog is one of the symptoms women dismiss the most, because nobody ever told them it was connected to anything. But estrogen has a real job in how your brain works, and when it shifts, your focus and memory shift with it. 🧠

You're not losing your mind. You derserve a physician who looks at the whole picture.

I am my ancestors' wildest dream come true. 😊

Today, on Juneteenth, I'm holding that close.

The freedom I get to walk in every day, building this practice and caring for my community the way I always dreamed, came at a cost I can't even imagine. Somebody held on through all of it so I could be here doing this.

I don't take it lightly. I carry them all with me.

So today I'm remembering the ones who came before me, and I'm recommitting to the work they made possible.

Happy Juneteenth, y'all. πŸ’œ

She mentioned it almost as an afterthought.

"Oh and sometimes I forget words mid sentence. That's probably just stress right?"

It's not just stress. Brain fog during menopause is one of the most common symptoms that women dismiss because nobody told them it was connected. Estrogen plays a direct role in cognitive function. As it shifts, so does mental clarity. πŸ’‘

Also hormonal health and mental health are not separate conversations. When the biology is addressed so much of the emotional suffering resolves.

You are not losing your mind. You deserve a physician who connects the dots.
