Today we got to experience the 🛩️✈️ Miracle of Hudson’s name was inspired by The Miracle on the Hudson. Hudson’s nurse navigator “Aunt” Susan was his Captain Sully during a traumatic and terrifying start to Hudson’s rare medical journey. She guided us his parents, she was an advocate, a leader among specialists making a more cohesive plan for his care, an empathetic ear, and a master scheduler for all his appointments. She was the calm in our crash landing. I had chills watching the story of bravery and heroism. Is it predestined that the plane now sits in Charlotte? Maybe. Regardless, we leave feeling inspired and hopeful to provide a rare family the next captain Sully/Aunt Susan.

We’re excited to share that Charlie Rymer will be joining us for the entertainment portion of our Rare Evening Reception at our golf tournaments this year.

Rymer played golf at Georgia Tech where he was a third-team All-America in 1988. He won five tournaments during his time at Georgia Tech. He was inducted into the Georgia Tech Athletics Hall of Fame in 2000.

In 1994 he won the Nike SC Classic and then recorded a runner-up finish the following week at the Nike Central Georgia. He earned his PGA Tour card in 1995 and recorded his career best finish on the PGA Tour in 1995 at the Shell Houston Open. He split time between the PGA Tour and the Nike Tour in 1997.

He’s been a commentator for ESPN and the golf channel. He grew up in Fort Mill, SC where Hudson and his family currently reside. He grew up playing golf and taking lessons where Hudson’s older brother now takes lessons and the family enjoys going out to play.

March is developmental disabilities month! Often but not always a person with a rare disease will also have a mental, physical, or sensory disability. Not only are medical professionals important, but therapists have equal value. PT’s, OT’s, speech therapists and the like are what push an individuals progress forward! I don’t know where we’d be without them. We owe Hudson’s abilities to his hard work with these incredible people. Just this week Hudson has decided to push around a shopping cart appropriately and putting his favorite things inside. This might seem like a minor accomplishment or no big deal to some. However, these little nuggets I find around the house are reminders of how far he has come. I walk by them and smile at the thought that he is capable to do these things now and with purpose. What small (or not so small) achievements are you celebrating this month?!

FRIDAY is Hudson’s school is celebrating and encouraging students to in honor of those with a rare disease. This was shared in the schools weekly newsletter; we are so thankful for a supportive community! Did you know that the zebra is the mascot for rare disease? Did you know that no two zebras have the same stripes? Their stripes are just as unique as your thumbprint. Just like a persons rare disease and genetics can be unique to them! 🦓 Celebrate with us and wear your stripes on Friday!

Once a month a baker that works for Mado Bakery and lives in Fort Mill has a bake sale out of her home and the money goes to different charities. She has asked that Miracle of Hudson be the beneficiary this month.

On Sunday November 24th she is opening up her bake sale at her home full of items from the following list:
