Stand on one leg. Ten seconds. Go. ⏱️

No shoes, counter within arm's reach, eyes open. Most people are surprised, in one study of adults 51–75, roughly 1 in 5 couldn't hold 10 seconds πŸ‘€

That number isn't a verdict. It's a baseline. And balance is one of the few things that answers back fast: 3 tries per leg while you brush your teeth, twice a day, and most people move that number within a few weeks 🦢

πŸ‘‡ What's your number? Be honest, the wobbles are the fun part.

Three balance exercises. Two minutes. No gym, no class, no equipment, just a kitchen counter and a chair. 🏑

1️⃣ Heel raises. Both hands on the counter. Rise up onto the balls of your feet, pause at the top, lower down with control. Three to start, build to ten. Your ankles do the quiet work every time you step off a kerb, and almost nobody trains them β˜•

2️⃣ Stand on one leg. Hand near the counter, close enough to catch yourself but not resting on it. Lift, hold, lower. Three times, then swap side 🦢

3️⃣ Stand up without your hands. Arms crossed over your chest, feet flat, sturdy chair behind you. Stand all the way up, sit all the way down. Three times. This is the one that decides the most, get out of a chair without pushing off your knees and you can get out of the car, up off the floor, and off the sofa when nobody's home. πŸ’ͺ

Do them where you already stand and you'll never have to remember them. While the coffee brews. While you brush your teeth. That's the whole trick. ⏱️

Save this one and pick the one you'll actually do tomorrow. πŸ“Œ

Next time you visit your parent, don't just sit on the couch πŸ›‹οΈ

Do the balance exercises with them πŸ‘΅πŸ»πŸ‘©

Ten minutes in the kitchen. Heel-to-toe down the hallway. Let the grandkids turn it into a competitionπŸ§’πŸΌπŸ… You're catching up and they're getting stronger, same visit, two wins✌️

The two-arm push-off is the sign most families miss πŸ‘€

When someone needs both armrests to stand, the legs are quietly asking the arms for backup. It's not weakness, it's a signal, and it tends to show up long before anyone calls it a "fall risk."

Try it yourself πŸ‘‰ cross your arms over your chest and stand up from a chair once, no hands. Strong legs should manage it. If it's a real struggle, that's worth keeping an eye on over time πŸͺ‘

Save this + share it with someone who cares for an aging parent 🧑

"Mom had a fall" πŸ˜”

It's the call every adult child quietly dreads and the cruel part is, it almost never comes out of nowhere. Balance and steadiness usually slip a little first, in ways too small for anyone to catch in the moment πŸ‘€

That quiet gap between "she seems fine" and "why didn't we know" that's the whole reason we're here πŸ’™

Meet AVA. πŸ‘΅ She's our little reminder that aging at home doesn't have to mean waiting for something to go wrong. That you can be proactive instead of scared. That checking in on the people you love can feel like care, not surveillance.

Follow along, we're building a place for the ones doing the worrying πŸ’™

Here's a balance tip you can start today: next time you brush your teeth, stand on one foot for 20 seconds. 🦡πŸͺ₯ It feels silly, but it's an easy way to build the balance that keeps you steady and independent 🧑

Go ahead and try it tomorrow morningβ˜€οΈ

Staying independent as we age often comes down to mobility and care that continues at home, not just in the clinic. πŸ’™

AVA links the two: therapists assess mobility in the clinic, and older adults keep going at home with just an iPad camera. 🏠
