Saturdays are for Skincare! Today I treated my patient with a Mixed Modality Facial.
Her concern was general dullness and lackluster tone. We tend to always want aggressive procedures. Today was not for deep chemical peels or the like. Instead I combined various modalities to gently exfoliate in a really effective way, using LED light to rejuvenate her cellular matrix, leaving her flowing and refreshed for the holiday season.

The procedure:
Dermaplane, Diamond-tip microdermabrasion, Enzyme, LED Red Light, finishing with Growth Factor (and SPF always!)

Workouts & Skincare 🏋️‍♀️
Good news…These two are not mutually exclusive!

Here are some tips:
⏰ Early AM Workouts: Skip the initial AM cleanse and do your full routine when you shower (hopefully immediately following your workout). If you have dry skin, apply a bit of light moisturizer before you work out to help prevent dehydration.

🌞 Daytime Workouts:
Remove your makeup prior to workouts. Reapply you AM skincare routine following the workout, before makeup.

🌚 Nighttime Workouts:
Remove makeup and follow your workout with an evening shower (cool water will help by not contributing to redness and vessel dilation), ending with your nighttime skincare routine.

✅MUSTS:
Wear SPF any time of day when exercising outdoors.
Remove makeup before working out, ALL of the time.
Launder your sports towel after each use.

😃TRY:
💧 Micellular Water to remove makeup
🧬Antioxidant Serum to combat free radicals caused by contaminants you came into contact with while working out and also to replenish hydration after an intense workout (after cleansing of course)
🧴 Tinted mineral SPF to act as both SPF and coverage following a daytime workout

Melanoma is a serious form of skin cancer that begins in cells known as melanocytes. It’s ability to spread to other organs more rapidly if it is not treated at an early stage, makes it so very dangerous to all.

What else should you do?
🔎 Get a skin check every year with a Board Certified Dermatologist
🪞Self Check each month
🧴Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher every day and reapply every 2 hours when outdoors
☀️Avoid tanning and never use tanning beds
😎Stay out of the sun between the hours of 10am and 4pm

Springtime ready Skincare! 🌷

EXFOLIATION:
NO SCRUB NEEDED! I am all for exfoliating daily with an AHA body lotion. 15% glycolic acid lotion is packed with AHA & antioxidants in a light, oil-free base. Making it super easy to apply daily (leave on, no rinse) without any sticky feeling after.
What this is great for?
-KP (those little annoying bumps on the back of your arms)
-Thicker skin on elbows, knees, and heels
-Bikini Butt! Get smooth and silky skin for your bathing suit

HYDRATE:
Hydration, Hydration, Hydration! I can’t say it enough, that when skin is dry and flaky, this doesn’t just look “meh”, but it shows that the barrier is not functioning property, leaving us vulnerable to external damage and elements. Hymed Original Reconstructive Cream is a true testament to “if it’s not broken, don’t fix it”. Made for psoriasis, eczema, and more dry/damaged skin conditions, this 30 year old original formulation is wonderful for the entire body (including the face!) With a high concentrate of Hyaluronic Acid, “Recon” will hydrate and heal the skin.

Expert Tip:
-Apply lotion within 5 min after a shower while skin is still damp for optimal product pe*******on

PROTECT:
Now that we are exfoliating daily, it’s even more important to apply SPF, DAILY! EltaMD’s UV Lotion offers an SPF 30 in a hydrating lotion.
Why I love this?
-All star ingredients: Zinc Oxide, Hyaluronic Acid, and Vitamin E
-Does not rub off on clothes
-Full Disclosure: This is NOT my beach/pool go-to. This is my Every Day body lotion SPF (think about your hands being exposed while driving!)

Who knew April 4th was National Vitamin C Day…Happy day to Vitamin C! 😂😀🍊

VItamin C is one of those classic ingredients that provides various benefits in several different forms. One could argue that an entire class could be dedicated to this classic vitamin, but I’m happy to save you some time!

Here are the need to know basics when purchasing effective Vitamin C based skincare:

What Vitamin C is used for?
-Collagen Stimulation
-Combating and Preventing damage from UV/Environmental elements
-Depigmenting when combined with HQ
-General Brightener
-Post Treatment aids in helping reduce Inflammation

What to look for in a topical Vitamin C?
-Packaging should limit UV and air exposure which may cause oxidation
-Ascorbyl-6-palmitate is optimal for depigmenting
-Ascorbyl Palmitate for sensitive skin

How to use Vitamin C?
-Use a Vitamin C serum as part of your morning regimen, along with your favorite cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF!
-Pair with an AHA based cleanser
-Apply again at night only if you are not using a retinoid

Layer your clothes and your skincare this winter! 🧤☃️

HA serums are a perfect way to increase hydration using active ingredients. Apply serums after cleansing/toning, than lock in by layering your moisturizer on top.

I’m loving our Hyaluronic Acid with Zinc serum, a Moisture intensive serum that soothes stressed/irritated skin.  Packed with bromelain, HA, antioxidants & bioflavonoids to reduce inflammation & irritation of the skin.

This is a great option for those with dry and flaky skin, acne and those on accutane, rosacea, eczema, and general dehydration.

Sodium Hyaluronate Smaller molecular weight than hyaluronic acid-it penetrates deeper into the layers of the skin and is a Powerful humectant that attracts and holds on to water to hydrate the skin and keep it moist

Zinc Gluconate is a Potent antioxidant that helps soothe and calm the skin. Anti-bacterial and helps to regulate sebum.  Great for Acne & Rosacea prone skin.

Tocopheryl Acetate: Vitamin E, known for its antioxidant properties. Remember when your mom used to pop open a vitamin e capsule for your skin 😂

Copper Gluconate amazing for healing properties and Promotes cellular regeneration

Tackle dry weather and inflammation at with one silky smooth serum

With ❄️ comes cold weather and less humidity in the air.
We turn on the heat in our homes, work, and cars, increasing exposure to dry heat, decreasing moisture in the skin, and potentially leading to inflammation 🥶

The outermost layer of skin is our armor, protecting us from daily irritants. When this barrier is compromised or inflamed by dryness, small invisible cracks form, easily allowing contaminants to pass by 😱

Our skin lets us know when it’s impaired by way of these symptoms:
😡Redness
🤭Flakiness
😳Itchiness
🥵Increased Sensitivities
😶‍🌫️Dull and uneven skintone

The key to balancing the skin’s barrier is simple: 💧hydration.

We can replenish our skins barrier with lipids and other hydrating ingredients. Once the barrier is balanced, symptoms will subside as our skin functions properly.

💁🏻‍♀️Keep an eye out this week for some of my favorite hydration tips!

Question: What does it take for great skin?

1. Medical Grade Skincare Home Regimen
🧪Med Grade means active ingredients, clinical studies, and increased efficacy.
👩🏻‍🔬Your home regimen should be designed by a licensed professional (sorry tik tok skincare junkies, but this is a must). Your lifestyle, concerns and goals, and health history must be taken into account. Trust the professional experts. Your home regimen is 70% of what changes your skin.

2. In-office Treatments
🗓Find a local practitioner you vibe with and Schedule 4 treatments per year. (Quarterly) These don’t have to be so invasive (unless you progressively worked up to it!) The idea is to professionally exfoliate and target specific concerns based on your needs, so your hone care penetrates more accurately.

3. Consistency is Key
🕛 Give it time. At least 3 months to start to see real change and stick with it.

Of course there is more that goes into it, but start with these 3 principals of great skincare and you are on your way!

🎃 Happy Halloween!!
