Low vitamin D status is something I see on labs in almost everyone I work with, even some getting sun or taking higher daily doses!
So why can vitamin D STILL be low when we’re doing the right things?
There are a few different reasons, but one that is gaining more and more attention is underlying viral loads that can block absorption of vitamin D.
We can have higher viral loads from chronic stress that decreases our immunity and reactivates old viruses like HH6 and EBV, or makes it hard to clear acute illnesses like we’re seeing with long c-v-i-d.
Because our vitamin D receptors get clogged up from those viral loads, we can’t absorb proper amounts, leaving our numbers lower than we need. A true double edged sword, as we need vitamin D to have a robust immune system!
How we can see this in labs:
Low vitamin D levels (below 70)
High neutrophils with low lymphocytes (ratio of 2.5-3)
High lymphocytes (above 42) with normal neutrophils
High monocytes (above 7)
Rosemary can be such a useful ally for this application! She’s gentle enough to be used by many, but very effective for assisting our immune system in clearing those viral loads and supporting our vitamin D levels as a wonderful side effect!
We can enjoy her infused in broths (my favorite, especially when not feeling well!), in tincture form, or in capsules. Potential side effects: better cognition, improved digestion and toasty hands and feet 🙈
The more I learn about rosemary (yes, the little old rosemary you can find at the grocery store!) the more I am in awe of her far, far reaching benefits!
