Hey girl 👋 Catherine here, your favorite holistic nutritionist - just casually chilling on this counter hoping to get your attention...

☀Here’s your friendly reminder that living a healthy lifestyle doesn't have to be complicated, expensive, and definitely is not an all-or-nothing practice.!

You also don't need to wait; until Monday, until all of the junk food is out of your house, until you grocery shop, until you get all of the information or make a plan.

You also don't need expensive kitchen gadgets, supplements, green powders, or style your food like works of art.

YOU CAN START RIGHT NOW! Right where you are, with what you have.

This can be done by simply being mindful of your eating habits and/or making one small adjustment.

-->ie: ate a bagel for breakfast? Aim for more greens and a lean protein for lunch or dinner. Buddah bowls or salads are a great way to easily incorporate both! Or simply choose to drink water today instead of your afternoon diet coke.

Take a pause right now to think of 1 small adjustment you can make today.

Let me know in the comments below what that is!

Here's mine: Today for a snack, I am going to have an apple & PB (instead of peanut butter pretzels that I snacked on yesterday).

Doing the best you can right now is better than "doing it tomorrow".

The most obtainable and sustainable change is done by taking small, incremental steps. :)

When was the last time you took a break from tech? I’m talking about a full day or even a weekend away from scrolling through Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, Animal Crossing..etc.

While these days, many of us use tech to tune out, the reality is that screen time will never leave us feeling recharged and refreshed - ever.

Instead, it just makes us feel constantly connected, over-stimulated, and overloaded with information - all of which can keeps us (and our brains) in a constant state of stress [whether you can feel it or not].

Carving out time for yourself by taking a break from the screen gives us a chance to recharge our own batteries and helps us to feel more mindful and aware of our surroundings.

This mindfulness leads to a sense of control & empowerment - suddenly, you feel like you can conquer it all! When before you might have just felt like checking out.

I often unplug on the weekends - or really anytime I can feel myself getting overloaded with work.

Stepping away from the screen allows me to focus on being more intentional and mindful of my days. Slowing me down, allowing my mind to relax and fully settle in the moment.

Swipe 👉 for a few photos of my incredibly recharging weekend. Small, simple moments that brought me so much joy....a clean space, baking, watching my favorite plant grow, and noticing all of the beautiful, old Chicago architecture on a walk with my guy.

How did you recharge this weekend?

Pancakes, Waffles, or French Toast?

I'll admit, it's hard for me to pick a favorite out of those 3! .But, I have always had a sweet spot for pancakes! Especially topped with fresh fruit + nut butter 😋

đŸ„ž DID YOU KNOW that the first pancakes were made by Roman's in the 1st Century AD?

đŸ„ž They were fried concoctions called Alita Dolcia (“another sweet” in Latin), made from milk, flour, eggs and spices and were very similar to pancakes.

đŸ„ž & maple syrup was originally a sweet drink discovered by the Algonquin Indians!

There's your little History lesson for the day :) Now go enjoy your Weekend!
Relax, slow down, and indulge in a delicious meal!

So, you're probably wondering WHY & HOW exactly hormones are so important in maintaining a balance within your health & wellbeing?

First of all, let's get this out of the way --> HORMONES -- ya know:: cortisol, serotonin, estrogen, testosterone, epinephrine [adrenaline]..etc -- are chemical substances produced & released by glands (organs) within the body’s endocrine system.

And they are VERY IMPORTANT due to the little (BIG) fact that they control nearly ALL OF THE PROCESSES IN YOUR BODY>>>

° Sleep cycles
° Heart rate
° Appetite
° Metabolism
° Muscle growth
° Mood
° Stress
° Growth & development
° Reproduction
° Sexual characteristics
° How we use + store fat
° Body temperature
° Levels of salts + sugar in the blood

Throughout a woman's life, fluctuating or changing hormones can impact many areas of health. & while some hormonal shifts are normal (monthly fluctuations of s*x hormones [hello menstruation & ovulation] or changes that occur during pregnancy & menopause), hormone balance can easily be disturbed.

Bloating, fatigue, irritability, hair loss, weight gain, mood swings, problems with blood sugar, high blood pressure, infertility, & changes in sleep are just a few symptoms of hormone imbalance.

Unfortunately, poor food + lifestyle choices have direct impact on hormonal imbalances - along with disturbances due to chronic stress, environmental toxicity, age + accumulated wear & tear.

The GOOD NEWS is that exercise, environment, attitude, & a balanced diet (that supplies vital nutrients) can boost vitality & help mitigate or even prevent many of the health problems that affect women + enhance emotional & physical well-being.

Over the next few weeks, I will be diving into the common conditions/symptoms that accompany imbalances within the endocrine & reproductive systems + share specific nutrient & lifestyle recommendations to improve function & help to restore balance.

Double tap if you are ready + excited to dive in with me! Drop a comment below or send me a DM if there are any specific questions/topics you would like me to cover!

Wanna know what DRIVES ME BANANAS?

When I hear clients and friends say that they stay away from bananas because they contain "too many carbs/sugar".

MY FRIENDS ❕❕Bananas are NOT THE ENEMY! In fact, they are highly nutritious and provide MANY health benefits!

They contain a ton of fiber, carbs, some essential vitamins, minerals, + a number of beneficial plant compounds and antioxidants - including dopamine and catechin (holla)! Eating bananas can help lower blood pressure and may reduce the risk of cancer.

Now, the amount and type of carbs + nutrients in a banana actually depends on how ripe it is.

🍌 Unripe, GREEN bananas are high in fiber, resistant starch, and pectin. They are lower in sugar, are FODMAP friendly, and are a great source of prebiotics for gut health (DO NOT EAT IF CONSTIPATED)!

🍌Barely ripe, YELLOW bananas are easy to digest, high in antioxidants and fiber content, are a great source of potassium, help you go #1 đŸ’©

🍌Ripe, YELLOW-BROWN bananas have the highest amount of antioxidants and contain mostly sugars (which is why they’re great in banana bread and smoothies)! You see, as bananas ripen and turn yellow, the starches transform into sugars.

If you’re worried about the sugar or carbs from bananas due to an underlying health condition or intolerance, choose partially green/green tipped bananas. The resistant starch will help to slow down the absorption of sugar from foods. This keeps your blood sugar levels stable and helps you feel full.

Tell me 👇👇 what’s your favorite way to use a banana?

New Month. New Mindset. New focus. New intentions. New results. >> What’s your plan for success this coming month?

When you think of your plans, your goals, + your intentions do you record them in a way that you can track them, recall them, and celebrate them?

If so, you’re on the right track! If not, it’s never too late to start.

Being successful, ESPECIALLY when reaching for certain health goals, is not an overnight development. It takes time, patience, strategy, + persistence.

Having your plans, goals + intentions recorded and coming back to them often will not only remind you of your WHY - but it will also help you to shift strategies that may not be working. And while you’re reviewing, I encourage you to celebrate even the tiniest of baby steps that you have taken along the way.

Two-part question for the comments below – What’s the one goal you have set for March and where have you written out your intention?

If you want help manifesting your health goals, DM me OR click the link in my bio to join our April RESTART to learn the foundations of nutrition and receive support all while challenging yourself to eat Whole Foods for 21 days.

Looking forward to celebrating YOU.!

Raise your hand if you've ever had one of those weeks where you feel like you're constantly playing catch-up?

It happens to all of as at one point or another..

It just so happens to be that kind of week over here! A new schedule and more responsibilities at work has been an ADJUSTMENT, to say the least.

& honestly, I have completely slacked in all other areas of my life (meal prepping, work outs, content creating and scheduling, cleaning..etc).

But! Instead of dwelling on everything that I am NOT doing, I have been focusing my time at home on getting adequate sleep and ALLOWING my body & mind the time to get used to this new routine.. regardless of how much of a struggle 🚌 it has been.

Self compassion is key when you are making big changes (and really, for anything in life)!

This weekend, I am dedicating my time to getting back in control. Making a plan and knocking some big tasks out - so I am ready to dominate life come Monday (which just so happens to coincide with a fresh new month)!

What do you do when you need to take back control after "one of those days/weeks"?

Today’s goes to one of my favorite, leafy (colorful) greens —>rainbow chard🌈

These beauts are not only pretty but they also incredibly nutrient-dense!
Loaded with allll the goods👉Vitamins (C, E, & K), fiber, carotenes & chlorophyll.

AND a great source of many minerals: magnesium, potassium, iron, and manganese. B6, calcium, protein, thiamine, zinc, niacin, folic acid, and selenium. ⁣😍

FUN FACT: The ancient Greeks and Romans honored chard for its medicinal properties. The juice from the chard was used as a decongestant, while the leaves were used to neutralize acid and for it’s purgative (laxative) effect.

I love chopping up rainbow chard (stems and all!) and adding it to stews, scrambled eggs, curry, or using them as a wrap!

When was the last time you added this colorful leafy green to your grocery list?
