I recently finished reading “Women Who Run With the Wolves” 🐺. Clarissa Pinkola Estés tells the tale of Vasalisa. A girl who is sent into the dark woods with only a small doll in her pocket. When she doesn’t know which way to turn, she feels the doll and asks. The doll, “her intuition” always knows.
The lesson Estés draws out: intuition isn’t a gift some women have. It’s a muscle. You feed it by listening, by acting on the quiet inner yes and no, by not overriding the signal because it’s inconvenient.
So much of women’s healthcare teaches you to distrust your own read of your body. We do the opposite. We help you feel and listen to the doll.
