Celebrating Clinical Success : Roy Bishop
Roy Bishop chose Durham-Hensley Health and Rehabilitation following a hospitalization that caused a decline in his functional mobility, particularly related to his respiratory status. During his stay, Mr. Bishop worked hard each day with Respiratory, Physical, and Occupational Therapy services, remaining determined to regain his strength and return home. He was closely monitored while using his BiPAP nightly, which Durham-Hensley provided during his stay. Mr. Bishop shared that he could already tell a difference in how much it helped him.
Respiratory Therapy educated him on oxygen delivery devices and appropriate oxygen flow settings and provided printed educational materials to help prevent future rehospitalizations. Before discharge, Respiratory Therapy worked closely with Social Services, the attending physician, FNP, and local DME providers to ensure all respiratory equipment and home supplies were arranged and ready upon discharge.
Mr. Bishop stated, “I am so excited to be going home. Everyone helped me so much, and I was very happy with the care I received at Durham-Hensley.”
Following discharge, Respiratory Therapist, Shonna, and Respiratory Therapist with AdaptHealth communicated closely to ensure a smooth transition home and continuity of care. Mr. Bishop shared how thankful he was for the care, education, and support they both provided throughout his recovery journey. He stated how wonderful both respiratory therapists were during his care at Durham, throughout the transition home, and with his home health respiratory care. He shared that both were amazing and expressed how grateful he was for the compassion and education he received from the skilled nursing facility through home health services.
Reports indicated Mr. Bishop was doing well on his home ventilator and continued to speak highly of the staff, care, compassion, and education he received during his stay and after returning home.
Respiratory Therapy also completed a follow-up phone call with Roy to answer questions and ensure all of his needs were being met at home. He happily shared that since returning home, he had been able to go fishing and spend more quality time with his family than he had in a long time.
We are incredibly proud of Roy’s hard work, determination, and accomplishments throughout his recovery journey. He was truly a joy to work with, and we are so happy to see him back to doing the things that bring him happiness.
