Not because someone handed them a worksheet.

They’ve seen them, played with them, drawn them, and talked about them over and over again.

What if we helped them learn plants the same way?

When children weave dandelions into garlands, press leaves into clay, make nature art, or spend time noticing the tiny details of a leaf, they’re building a relationship with the plant.

They begin to remember:

- What season it grows in

- The shape of its leaves

- The pattern of its veins

- Its texture and color

-Where it likes to grow

Identification becomes less about memorization and more about familiarity.

There’s a reason childhood feels so full of memories. Everything is new. New tastes, new places, new experiences.
As adults, we often move through our days on autopilot. The same routines, the same roads, the same meals. Our brains stop paying as much attention because they’ve seen it all before.
One of the easiest ways to wake up to your life again is to do something unexpected.
Today, that looked like leaning out the window and snacking on daylilies with my kids.
Was it necessary? Absolutely not.
Will they remember it? Probably.
Novel experiences create stronger memories because they engage our senses and pull us into the present moment. Sometimes creating a core memory is as simple as tasting a safe edible flower, taking a different path through the garden, or saying yes to a little silliness.
You don’t need a big vacation to make memories. Sometimes all it takes is a childlike spirit and a willingness to break routine.
(And if you happen to impress your kids by casually eating flowers, that’s just a bonus.)

The battle for identity began in a garden.
The serpent’s question wasn’t really about fruit—it was about trust. It was about identity. “Did God really say?”
Every generation has faced that same question.
What if the opposite of deception isn’t intelligence, but remembrance? Remembering what God said. Remembering who He created us to be. Remembering the garden.
Yarrow has long been known as the warrior herb. Not because it teaches us how to fight others, but because it reminds us to stand firm when the world asks us to question who God says we are.
Courage begins by believing what God has already spoken.

Today my son (Ari Rocket- aka Rocky) got to show his friends around the garden, teaching them what plants were edible and encouraging them to try new things.
There’s something special about watching kids share knowledge with one another and taste test new plants! The thought that a plant could sting you was 🤯. Curiosity grows, confidence grows, and friendships grow too.
Just a bunch of kids enjoying the simple things—fresh air, good company, while snacking their way through the garden. Thanks for sharing your kiddos and for always capturing the magic!

Thankfully, the currants are ripe because my grocery budget wasn’t prepared for summer vacation. 😂
One of my favorite things about edible landscaping is that all those years of planting finally start paying off. Gardening can feel like a slow, tedious process sometimes, but there’s something so satisfying about watching your kids wander outside and come back with berry-stained fingers.
There are so many easy-to-maintain perennial plants that produce food year after year with very little effort once they’re established. Berry bushes, fruit trees, herbs, and edible flowers can turn your yard into a place that’s both beautiful, nutritious and productive.
Today’s snack was brought to you by the garden (of Eten).

To be holy is to be set apart. Let’s be different than the grumpy world lol.
Children approach the world with wonder.
They stop for bugs. They examine flowers. They ask questions without shame. They find treasure in ordinary things.
They also feel deeply and honestly.
They cry when they’re sad. Laugh when they’re joyful. They release emotion without hesitation instead of burying it beneath performance, fear, or pride.
Somewhere along the way, criticism, cynicism, disappointment, and the opinions of others can begin to drain the color from life. We slowly hand our autonomy over to people instead of bringing everything to the altar first and asking for divine wisdom.
Discernment matters deeply, but so does wonder.
So does tenderness.
So does staying curious.
Faith was never meant to become cold, guarded, or disconnected from awe. Maybe becoming childlike again is learning to notice beauty, mystery, and the quiet ways God is always speaking through creation.
Part of that healing for me has been getting my hands dirty again. Harvesting the herbs that carry us through each season. Remembering that creation still teaches us when we slow down enough to listen.
Long live childlike wonder.

Just taking a moment to pause and feel grateful for this life we’re building. Our son painting outside, chickens wandering around, and a home that feels alive with simple joy and Sabbath peace. It’s like a little slice Eden…. But Eten.
