The simple food swap most people overlook when they're trying to improve their health and lose weight.

Every week I talk to people who are trying really hard to make healthier choices.

So let's say someone swaps bacon and eggs for a low-fat muffin and yogurt because that's what they've been told is healthier.

Or maybe they replace butter with margarine.

Or they choose the fat-free version because it has fewer calories.

Then they work backward from those choices and wonder why they're hungry again an hour later, craving snacks, and feeling like they need more willpower.

One of the things I encourage people to do is look at the quality of the food first.

Is it real food?

Will it satisfy you?

Does it give your body something useful to work with?

Those questions have helped many of our members make better food choices without feeling like they're constantly on a diet.

I've stood in front of the mirror feeling frustrated, defeated, and wondering why everyone else seemed to figure this out except me.

There are a lot of people who feel confident in their bodies, but there are also a lot of people standing in front of a mirror every morning wishing they could change what they see.

There are days when you feel good, and there are days when you avoid the camera, avoid the mirror, and wish you had Harry Potter's invisibility cloak so nobody would notice you at all.

I know what it feels like to pull at your clothes, avoid certain outfits, and wonder why something that seems so easy for other people feels so hard for you.

The hardest part was carrying the disappointment and feeling like I should have figured it out by now.

Looking back, I wish I had shown myself more grace during those years.

Because losing 120 pounds didn't suddenly make me a better person. It simply helped me become healthier and more comfortable in my own skin.
