BERBERINE | What does it actually have to do with GLP-1s, HRT & TRT?
You may have heard berberine called "nature's Ozempic."
But that comparison is a little too simple... Berberine is a naturally occurring compound that has been studied for its effects on blood sugar regulation, insulin sensitivity and metabolic health.
So where does GLP-1 fit in? GLP-1 medications work through specific hormone pathways that help regulate appetite, blood sugar, digestion and satiety. Berberine works differently.
Research suggests berberine may support metabolic health and glucose regulation.
For someone using a GLP-1 medication, the bigger conversation is often about the whole metabolic picture: nutrition, muscle preservation, blood sugar, insulin sensitivity, activity levels and long-term weight management.
Berberine isn't a magic pill, and "natural Ozempic" doesn't tell the whole story, but it may have a role in supporting metabolic health for some people, but whether it makes sense for YOU depends on your health history, medications, labs, goals and overall treatment plan.
At BlueSky MD, we believe the goal isn't simply to add another supplement to your routine. It's understanding WHY you're using it and how it fits into the bigger picture.
If you're taking a GLP-1, considering HRT or TRT, or simply trying to improve your metabolic health, talk with your healthcare provider before adding berberine, especially because supplements can interact with medications and aren't appropriate for everyone 🩵
