🚨 THEY’RE COMING FOR SMALL H**P BUSINESSES — AND WE’RE DONE STAYING QUIET.
Let’s make something VERY clear.
Intoxicating h**p products make up roughly 90% of Cough It Up Co.’s sales.
So when politicians and lawmakers change the rules around intoxicating h**p, they’re not just “regulating a product.”
They’re threatening our entire business.
They’re threatening our employees.
They’re threatening FOUR DIFFERENT HOUSEHOLDS in our own community.
And we know we’re not the only small shop facing this.
We built Cough It Up Co. because we wanted to create something different.
We’ve NEVER been interested in pushing the nastiest products we could find just because they make money.
Nitrous.
M**h pipes.
7-HO.
You name it.
We’ve always tried to build our business around products our customers actually want while keeping the shop focused on a culture and community we’re proud of.
But here’s the problem:
When you take away the products that pay the bills, eventually there isn’t a business left to protect.
And that’s exactly where we’re headed.
The federal government has changed the federal h**p definition, while Illinois has also made major changes to its h**p laws. Unless those rules change, the future of businesses like ours is seriously in question.
As of right now, December 12th, 2026 could be our last day.
Read that again.
A business that has employed people.
Paid taxes.
Paid rent.
Bought from suppliers.
Spent money in the local economy.
And served thousands of customers…
Could be forced to shut its doors.
And what happens to the customers?
They’re still going to want cannabis.
They’re still going to look for intoxicating products.
So where does that leave them?
The street?
Out-of-town dispensaries?
Other markets?
Because let’s be honest — banning the legal option doesn’t make demand disappear.
It just changes where people get it.
And if you think the only people profiting from cannabis outside of licensed retail are “gangsters”…
You should see the MOB surrounding Big Canna.
Meanwhile, independent businesses that took the risk, opened the doors, hired the employees and served their communities are being put in an impossible position.
And Clinton has another problem.
We don’t have a local dispensary waiting to replace us.
Illinois’ cannabis licensing structure determines where dispensaries can operate, and communities like ours aren’t guaranteed to receive one simply because h**p retailers disappear.
So what exactly is the end goal here?
Because from where we’re standing, it looks like the little guy gets squeezed out while the biggest players in the industry are positioned to capture more of the market.
WE ARE NOT OKAY WITH THAT.
We’re disappointed.
We’re frustrated.
And honestly, we’re pi**ed.
Not because we think every h**p product should automatically be legal.
Not because we think there shouldn’t be rules.
But because small businesses and working families deserve a seat at the table before their livelihoods are put on the chopping block.
And we’re going to keep fighting to keep our doors open.
For now, Cough It Up Co. is still HERE.
We’re going to keep stocking the shelves.
We’re going to keep bringing in products.
We’re going to keep serving Clinton.
And we’re going to keep showing up for the people who have supported us.
But if these changes remain in place and we reach the point where we can no longer survive, you’ll see us start clearing out our inventory — glass, merchandise and everything else — because we’re not going to pretend everything is fine.
This isn’t just about Cough It Up.
It’s about small businesses.
It’s about employees.
It’s about families.
It’s about local economies.
It’s about communities being told what products they can sell while having no realistic replacement for the revenue those products generated.
And most importantly—
IT’S ABOUT PEOPLE.
To everyone who’s supported us:
THANK YOU.
Every purchase.
Every visit.
Every share.
Every recommendation.
Every person who has walked through our doors.
You helped build this.
And if Cough It Up Co. ends up closing, it won’t be because our community stopped supporting us.
🖤 It’ll be because the rules changed underneath us.
Cough It Up Co.
