This morning, AEEE Student Jessie Hoover successfully defended her dissertation, entitled "Understanding the Needs and Practices of Cut Flower Growers in Louisiana: A Qualitative Case Study". Special thank you to all committee members, Dr. Bill Richardson, Dr. Adam O'Malley, Dr. Kiki Fontenot, and Dr. Shannon Walsh. Congratulations, Dr. Hoover!!!

We’re excited to have Chynna King join the 2026 LSU AgCenter Extension Internship Program! Chynna is a senior at Southern University, majoring in Animal Science. She serves as President of the Alpha Zeta Fraternity Chapter at Southern and is interested in pursuing a career in livestock management and reproduction, with a focus on cattle. A proud East Feliciana native, Chynna attended East Feliciana High School, where she was named the 2023 Valedictorian and the 2022–2023 District Student of the Year. Chynna has jumped right in and is already making an impact, whether she’s tagging lambs, answering phones, or helping wherever she’s needed. Her willingness to work, learn, and serve in any capacity truly stands out! You’ll be seeing her out in the community as she gains hands-on experience in Extension and research. And if you call the office and hear a new voice, it just might be Chynna!

We are in the middle of hosting the Louisiana County Agricultural Agents Association here in the Felicianas! This year’s theme, “Tradition Grows Here,” highlighted the strong agricultural roots and community that make our area so special.
Members from across the state enjoyed informative tour stops at Idlewild Research Station and McKowen Farms, Members were also treated to great evening of fellowship and dinner hosted by Mr. John Thompson.
A big thank you to all of our sponsors and hosts for your support and hospitality in making this conference a success. We are honored to showcase the Felicianas!

The Feliciana Forestry Association hosted a successful Field Day on Friday, May 15, at the property of Dennis Aucoin. A group of 40 attendees toured the site to learn about his timber management practices across both pine and hardwood stands.
Participants had the opportunity to see firsthand how management decisions impact forest productivity and health. The tour also included discussions on tree genetics and practical wildlife management strategies, offering valuable insights for landowners and forestry professionals alike.
We appreciate Dennis Aucoin for hosting and sharing his knowledge, and we thank everyone who attended and contributed to a meaningful and educational day.

Interested in becoming a Master Gardener?
A new Master Gardener class begins August 12 in Clinton. Classes meet every Wednesday, 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m., through November 18 at the East Feliciana Parish Extension Office.
The course fee is $200 and includes the manual, publications, name badge, refreshments, and class supplies.
