🌿🤍 Pearly Everlasting — the little wildflower that refuses to fade.

If you’ve wandered through dry meadows, sunny forest openings, or mountain roadsides in the Pacific Northwest, you may have passed this beautiful native plant without realizing how much history it carries.

Pearly Everlasting (Anaphalis margaritacea) gets its name from its clusters of tiny, pearly-white flowers that keep their shape and color remarkably well after drying — making them look almost everlasting.

🌿 Traditional plant use

Pearly Everlasting has a long history of use among Indigenous peoples of North America and in later folk herbal traditions. Different preparations of the plant have traditionally been used for respiratory complaints, colds, sore throats, digestive discomfort, and externally for wounds, bruises, swelling, and other skin concerns.

The leaves and flowers have also been prepared as teas, washes, poultices, and steam treatments depending on the tradition.

As with so many wild plants, traditional use doesn't automatically equal proven modern medical treatment — but it gives us a beautiful glimpse into generations of accumulated plant knowledge. 🌱

✨ And then there’s the folklore…

Because its papery white flowers remain beautiful long after being picked, Pearly Everlasting naturally became associated with immortality, remembrance, enduring love, protection, and things that survive beyond their season.

Dried everlasting flowers were historically kept in arrangements, wreaths, memorial pieces, and other decorations precisely because they didn't quickly wither away.

Which gives this humble little plant a rather beautiful message:

Some things aren't meant to last unchanged.
They're meant to transform — and still carry their beauty forward. 🤍

And one more reason I love finding it in the wild: Pearly Everlasting is also an important host plant for the American lady butterfly. 🦋

Medicine, folklore, transformation, butterflies…

Nature really does love a theme. 😆🌿✨

🌿🔥 Homemade Fire Cider

Apparently harvest season has awakened something in me, because I’m officially putting everything in jars. 😂🫙

Today’s creation is Fire Cider—an old-school herbal vinegar traditionally made with warming roots, citrus, peppers, garlic and herbs. There are endless variations, so I made mine with what sounded good, what I had available, and a whole lot of 🔥.
Note: Grapefruit can interact with some medications.

For approximately 1 gallon:
🫚 2–4" each fresh ginger, turmeric & horseradish root, chopped
🍊 1 orange
🍋 1 lemon
💚 1 lime
🍊 1 grapefruit (optional)
🌶️ 3+ jalapeños, chopped
🔥 2+ cayenne peppers, chopped
🌱 3–5 radishes, chopped
🧄 1–2 bulbs garlic, chopped
⚫ 2 Tbsp whole black peppercorns
🌸 2 Tbsp whole cloves
🌿 3–5 sprigs fresh rosemary
🍎 Apple cider vinegar with the mother, enough to completely cover everything

Chop everything up, add it to a clean gallon jar and cover completely with apple cider vinegar. Keep the plant material submerged, seal it up, and let it infuse for about 4 weeks, giving it a shake now and then.

Then strain it well and add honey to taste if you’d like to soften the 🔥. Store the finished cider in the refrigerator.

This is my first batch, so naturally I made an entire gallon. Apparently I don't believe in easing into hobbies. 😂🌿🔥

Check the comments if you're curious about the traditional uses and folklore behind these ingredients—including their associations with inflammation, digestion, circulation and seasonal wellness. 🌿

Welcome to Jarae’s Wild Apothecary. 🫙✨
I have a feeling we're going to need more jars.

I am walking proof that we can only meet life as deeply as we're willing to meet our Self, our deepest truths.

The more willing I’ve been to sit with my grief, fear, disappointment and the uncomfortable truths buried underneath it all… the more beauty I seem capable of experiencing, too.

It’s almost as if we don’t get to selectively deepen. When we make room for the darkness, we make more room for the light, too. When we stop running from sadness, joy becomes richer. And when we allow ourselves to feel all of it, life somehow becomes more alive. More meaningful. 🙌

Maybe that’s the yin and yang of being human. ☯️
The darkness was never keeping us from the light. It was expanding our capacity to hold it. 🌿✨

Spiritual growth often requires is to fall into old patterns. That’s okay because we only need focus on noticing them sooner.

Awareness is the turning point.

Every time you recognize a limiting belief, an old wound, or an unconscious reaction, you're given a new choice.

That's what reprogramming looks like. That's what ascension feels like.

Not perfection... but becoming more conscious with each experience.
Give yourself grace. You're not failing. You're remembering your true Self.

A 16-second reset for your nervous system.
Follow the water:
✨ Inhale for 4
✨ Hold for 4
✨ Exhale for 4
✨ Hold for 4
Save this post and repeat if you need it.

Nature has always been one of my favorite co-regulators. The river never asks me to become anything other than present and some days the nervous system doesn't need another podcast, another answer, or another productivity hack.
Sometimes it just needs:
🌿 cool water 🌲 trees overhead 💨 one slow breath 💧 something steady to return to.

If you're scrolling quickly, borrow this moment for yourself.
