The beetle kill epidemic is an unfortunate reality and it's about to get very bad. The Rocky Mountain pine beetle is infesting areas in El Paso and Douglas Counties. Watch this video on what to look for if your trees are sick. Tree Beavers practice is to cut infested trees at the base and run them through a whole tree track chipper. This completely kills the beetles and avoids them from bouncing to healthy trees. Stop the spread before the weather gets too warm which is an environment where they thrive. Tree Beavers is proud to be partnering with the Town of Castle Rock performing fire mitigation at Metzler Family Open Space. This 23-acre community destination is on the corner of Crowfoot Valley Road and the Founders Parkway intersection. Due to the presence of mountain pine beetle and other factors, fire mitigation efforts were needed, including the removal of a significant number of infected trees. This just in! Douglas County’s Wildfire Mitigation 50/50 Cost-Sharing Program opens on Monday, 3/23/26. This grant program will help residents and communities mitigate private land against the risk of wildfire and aims to increase the pace and scale of private wildfire mitigation efforts, overcome financial barriers to completing mitigation, and build community capacity across Douglas County. By order of Sheriff Darren Weekly, Stage 1 Fire Restrictions are in place for unincorporated areas of Douglas County. Ordinance No. O-012-004 restricts open fires, open burning and the use of fireworks in the unincorporated areas of Douglas County.
