This time of year is filled with reminders and feelings of the business kicking up for the season. But, I'm in the last steps of disassembling all that once was Sun In Sorrow- it's full of mixed emotions. What's beautiful is that the business can wrap up with the same principle on which it was created: community first. I am able to send off the rest of my herbs, jars, and supplies to a local grower and food educator who has been doing incredible stuff here in Columbia, and venturing into the herb business herself! My spouse and I have purchased starts and plants from her for a few seasons. You can check her out at Joyful Souls Heirloom Nursery! She is so cool and brilliant and is bringing food and farming education to the hands of youth. She even gives away free native pollinator plants with your purchase.

Lastly, I decided to make my last donation from Sun In Sorrow to the a recurring one, as a nod to becoming a therapist myself and growing away from this chapter. Thanks for everything yall- I may still post seasonal herby things on here from time to time, and don't ever hesitate to reach out!

Wishing everyone a transformative and healing solstice as the light returns. After a lot of thought, I decided to fully close up Sun In Sorrow Herbs for now- I have a lot on my plate and just can’t show up how I want to show up here. My goal is to restore my personal use and relationship and learning with plants and plant medicine on my own time. Not only am I in the process of changing careers to become a Marriage, Couples, and Family therapist, but I am needing to focus my energy on my own chosen family, community, and my journey into creating a family of my own. Hopefully I’ll be back on here one day- who knows, I may post from time to time about what I’m growing or doing. But for now, I’m taking so much that I learned, so many ways that I grew during Sun In Sorrow, into my day-to-day. Thank you for your support and encouragement, the whole way through.

I’ve been sleeping on making this post for a while, there’s a lot of mixed feelings, but I have a big announcement! Please share and engage so that more folks can stay updated.

🌻Sun In Sorrow is effectively shutting down in 2024🌻 In transparency- me and my partner’s life has endured MANY changes since late 2021. Most notably, my life took a big turn when my dad was killed in a terrible accident late that year after we moved to SC. I took over his guitar repair business which was amazing and complicated and hard, and then I decided to go back to graduate school for marriage, couples, and family counseling (I started May 2023!). The grad school dream began taking shape after I left my food justice/farm-to-school career in 2017. But when my dad died, a lot of things in life became reprioritized in good and bad ways. And my grief is like a whole new relationship to manage in my life. The reality is that I am not in a place to be able to be reliable for and dependable to you all through Sun In Sorrow right now.

I will continue to work with herbs and expand my understanding and experience in my personal time. I want to rekindle my relationship with plants and herbal work in hopes of doing something like this again in the future.

That being said! I am doing one last hurrah, one last round of preordering for everything currently on my website for the upcoming cooler months and holidays. Post coming with with more information. Please don’t hesitate to DM at any time.

What I will say- this felt like SUCH a success. I was able to donate and supplement nearly $1000 of herbs and mutual aid funds throughout Sun In Sorrow’s journey. Y’all did that. Your unending, enthusiastic, loving support taught me a LOT. I am a changed person for it. My gratitude to my friends and regular customers who poured into Sun In Sorrow is monumental. That was the real purpose of this business; bringing community love and support and nourishment to more people through togetherness. That’s something I believe, fully, in my mind, body, and heart, that is possible and sustainable and necessary for us all. At the end of the day, all we have is each other. Love your people hard 💜 thank you!

Well hey y’all! Some folks have been asking- the online store will be back up and refreshed in less than two weeks! We have exciting things on the way featuring blends that can be iced or cold-brewed for the hot weather! Grief, loss, change, and overwhelm have been playing a big role in my life for the past two years, and in the lives of so many people I know, meet, see on social, etc. I originally blended Heart Soother in a time when I didn’t know these experiences nearly to the extent I know them now, but it’s built to support the weight of all those. The herbs in this blend slow everything down from the twisty, knotty, draining, and scattered emotions of a hurting heart. It promotes emotional balance, reassurance, and softness. It opens up your capacity to hold the hard stuff and take the time you need to understand your what’s at hand.

This was a massive undertaking behind the scenes, where I’m also running my dad’s brick and mortar business and doing a part-time office job. So THANK YOU truly, from the bottom of my lil gay heart, for your patience and encouragement. I will post pictures of the gift boxes tomorrow- though I encourage only those local to Columbia SC, late-gifters, or non Xmas celebrators to take advantage of those. It’s going to be hard to get those in the mail quickly in time for Dec. 25th.

new blend hitting the website next week (with a couple others). i’ve been focusing on some more simplistic blends, things that just taste really dang good and are more approachable for folks who aren’t into more complex or less well known herbs. i love when people want to try less conventionally popular herbs, but there’s absolutely nothing wrong with just enjoying a straightforward hot tea. and some of these two ingredient blends will have one familiar and one potentially unfamiliar herb so you can dip your toe in the water. 💫here’s peppermint / red rooibos 💫 these simpler blends won’t have fancy names or enchantments, but will absolutely bring you pleasure. ☺️

took some time to slow down and dig a little deeper for the first time in a while. herbs and plants in general were really summoning my attention today- i was feeling and picking up on a lot. i work with this book a lot, ‘s Plant Witchery. i absolutely cherish it. i recommend it if you are looking to build better relationships with plants and their many forms of magick.
