Hi loves,
There's something about that crisp morning air lately that just wakes you up different. I'll be honest with you, because that's the only way I know how to be. The month I had off from preschool in August, I slacked. I ate erratically, stayed up way too late, and let my meditation and yoga practice slide more than I'd like to admit. It happens. Summer has a way of loosening all our routines, and there's nothing wrong with that.
But this week, I started finding my way back. I've been waking up a little earlier, doing my stretches, tongue scraping, and sipping warm water with lemon before anything else touches my system. Small things, but they add up:
Tongue scraping clears away the coating that builds up overnight, which can carry the toxins your body worked to process while you slept. It also wakes up your taste buds and freshens your breath before that first cup of coffee.
Warm lemon water gently kickstarts digestion, supports your liver as it does its morning detox work, and helps rehydrate you after a night of sleep, all while being easy and soothing on the system.
I've also been carving out a little time to meditate and move. It's only been two days, but I can already feel it in my patience. I can't even imagine how grounded I'll feel once this becomes my routine again.
So here's my invitation to you: start where you are. Not where you think you should be, just where you actually are today. Try one thing this week that boosts your morning. Maybe it's:
A few minutes of quiet before you look at your phone
Stretching before your feet even hit the floor
Warm lemon water, or a version of this little morning ritual
Stepping outside for a minute to feel the changing air on your skin
I promise, it helps with the heaviness that comes with a changing season. Even the smallest anchor can hold you steady.
Sunday's Community Class Under the Lights
What a night. Sunday was our first class at the new time, 7pm, and also our first class as a $5 class, and you all showed up anyway. Thank you. That includes some first time yoga friends who walked through the door not knowing what to expect. Once you're in the doors, you're a yogi. All of you are rockstars.
Our theme was "the movement you need is on your shoulders," pulled from "Hey Jude" by the Beatles. We spent the class exploring what it means to stop holding space for things that don't need to live in our bodies anymore. Also we concentrated on our tension in our shoulders. I love getting to slow down and actually explain the why behind what we're doing, even while I'm still out here relearning my own right from my left. No judgment here, ever, and I hope you never feel it either.
Join me this Sunday at 7pm at Soccer Plant, 9050 Red Branch Road. Come as you are, blossom as you're meant to. And a reminder for anyone hesitating: there are male and other identifying late bloomers in this practice too, so please don't be shy. I will have tongue scrapers to give away if you want to start your new favorite morning ritual!
Questions, comments, anything on your mind, I'm always here.
Much love and light,
Victoria
