When “I’m Fine” Doesn’t Tell the Whole Story

Sometimes, “I’m fine” is the easiest answer to give, even when someone is carrying something difficult.

Children, teens, and adults may not always have the words to explain what they’re feeling. Changes in behavior, mood, relationships, or daily routines can be signs that someone may need extra support.

A simple check-in can make a difference.

Try asking:
• “How have you really been feeling?”
• “What has been on your mind lately?”
• “Is there anything you want to talk about?”

Listening without judgment creates space for honest conversations.

At CHRIS 180, we believe everyone deserves a safe place to be heard and supported.

BACK TO SCHOOL keeping the lines of communication open.

Sometimes the most important thing we can do is start the conversation. Talking with young people about substance use, healthy choices, and the pressures they face doesn’t require having all the answers. It starts with listening, staying curious, and creating space for honest conversations.

This short video is a great reminder of why those conversations matter. Take a few minutes to watch, then use it as an opportunity to start talking with the young people in your life.
Sometimes the most important thing we can do is start the conversation.

Congratulations to Taylor Younkin, our GHHS 2026 Start Talking Grandview Scholarship winner!
At Start Talking Grandview, we work to engage our community in respectful, informed conversations around substance misuse and its impacts. Our scholarship recognizes students who lead with empathy, resilience, and kindness- and Taylor truly embodies those qualities.
One reference shared that Taylor consistently “served as a positive role model,” while another described her as “empathetic and kind.”
We are excited to see Taylor continue her journey at The Ohio State University this fall!
Congratulations, Taylor!

🌟 Tonight’s the Night—Celebrate Big, Stay Safe, Make It Count!
Many teens (and parents) don’t realize that tampering, even with legal beverages can happen.
Encourage your teen to:
✔ Stay with trusted friends
✔ Avoid unattended drinks
✔ Only celebrate in familiar, legal-age locations
✔ Speak up if someone seems suddenly unwell or uncomfortable
✔ Get help immediately if something feels off
This isn’t about fear-it’s about awareness, boundaries, and care.
