I’ve been missing some of the simple things we used to do this time of
year. Pumpkin carving, fall festivals, making chili, picking out
costumes, and getting creative with them.

So I found this Halloween tablecloth we could color and talked my
daughter into doing it with me. We sat there and colored, didn’t say
much, and just enjoyed being together.

I think I’ve been missing that creative part of myself too. It felt
good to bring a little of her back. ❤️

By now, most of us have heard of the Cornell 7 and the emerging allegations and details of the investigation.

But it has also brought up the question that is most often asked when victims wait a long period of time before coming forward with their story.

Why is that?

More so, I wonder what it is about our society that makes a victim too scared to come out and seek justice sooner.

I understand innocent until proven guilty...that isn't what this is about.

Instead, I want to answer why MAYBE it took her a while to gather her courage and feel strong enough to stand up for herself.

What are your thoughts?

What is it that happens to us as women that makes us stop trusting ourselves?

Who are we letting into our heads that makes us second-guess every decision we make?

A lot of my clients tell me that they no longer trust themselves. Many come from toxic and abusive relationships. Many come out of childhood trauma.

There is something powerful about a woman who knows who she is and isn’t afraid to speak her truth.

One of the things I deeply appreciate about the Indigenous women in my life is the way they show up as Matriarchs. With strength, honesty, wisdom, and a deep connection to who they are.

But I also believe we need women around us whose lives and experiences are different from our own.

When we surround ourselves with a diverse circle of women, we don’t lose our own perspective. We expand it.

We listen. We learn. We challenge one another. And sometimes, another woman helps us see something in ourselves we couldn’t see alone.

Choose your circle well. And make sure everyone in it doesn’t look, think, or live exactly like you.

I snapped this picture of Wes today while we were talking about Orange Shirt Day. He was trying to work and definitely didn’t have time for my picture. 😂

Orange Shirt Day honors Indigenous children who were taken from their families and sent to residential and boarding schools, where many were stripped of their language, culture and identity. The orange shirt has become a symbol of remembrance and the message that Every Child Matters.

Then Wes told me his dad was almost placed in an orphanage and said, “He WOULD have ended up in a boarding school.”

And there he was, standing in our kitchen wearing orange.

It just hit me how close this history really is.

One generation. 🧡 Every Child Matters.
