A big thank you to Logan’s Landing Project for having Metta Pediatric Therapy at the Bee a Friend Festival today! 🐝💛

I went into today without many expectations other than to connect—and connect I did!

I connected with kids (and parents) who told me about their favorite bugs, kids who shared their painting preferences, and kids who very clearly preferred stickers over paint. 😂

I connected with families who were there supporting their loved ones, people who were simply there to support their community, and providers and advocates who were interested in learning, sharing, and connecting.

And I got to spend a whole lot of time watching kids just be kids—which is honestly one of my favorite things.

This community canvas was one of my favorite parts of the day. So many little hands helped add to it, and it’s not quite finished yet! I’m going to finish it up and gift it to Logan’s Landing Project as a little reminder of all the people who came together to support their mission.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, added to our canvas, chatted with me, or simply came over to say hi.

Today was a good reminder that sometimes you don't have to have an agenda. You just have to show up, be present, and connect.

And I’m really looking forward to seeing where some of these new connections lead.

The other day my husband pointed out that our daughter was pointing at the sun while they were waiting for me in the car.

She’s 16 months and doesn’t have a ton of words yet, but she was trying to tell him something. He eventually figured out that the sun was in her eyes.

And it got me thinking about how much we pay attention when we know a child can’t just tell us what’s going on.

We watch where they point. We watch their face. We notice where they’re looking, what they’re moving toward or away from, and what they keep doing over and over.

We have to put the pieces together…or at least try our hardest!

But then I started thinking about how that changes once kids have words.

We can hear what they’re saying and assume we understand what’s going on, without always paying attention to everything else they’re communicating.

And I think this is something I’ve really come to appreciate through OT. Behavior, movement, sensory preferences, body language... it can all tell us something about what a child is experiencing.

It just made me wonder how much more we might notice if we kept listening that closely, even after our kids have words — or even when we expect them to be able to tell us what’s going on.

Sometimes we just need to slow down a little.

As adults, we forget.

In case you can’t tell… I’m currently playing at Facebook, Canva, and all the social media-related things.

If you had told me a year ago, or even 6 months ago, that I’d be sitting here figuring out social media for my business, I probably would have laughed.

I’ve definitely been a little judgmental about the whole thing. 😂

But honestly? It’s fun enough that it keeps the frustration at bay.

And that’s exactly the point. That’s what makes it play.

That’s why children do it, why they explore, and why and how they learn.

When something is interesting enough to keep us engaged, we keep trying — even when we’re not very good at it yet.

Maybe we could use a little more of that as adults, too. 💛

So… what are you playing at?

Get down on their level. Talk to them. Make a silly face. Put a favorite toy in front of them.

Sometimes connection is the motivation for movement. 💛

What gets your little one to look up? 👀

Growing Through Movement

Tummy time gets talked about a LOT when we’re talking about babies — but it doesn’t always look like a happy baby hanging out on the floor for 15 minutes...or even 2 minutes.

And that’s okay.

Tummy time can happen in lots of different ways. What matters is giving your baby opportunities to practice using their body, look around, reach, push, shift their weight, and explore movement.

Those little pieces build on each other and help create the foundation for the skills that come next.

Over the next few weeks, I’m going to share some of those little steps and talk about what you might see, what your baby is working on, and why it matters.

Because development isn't about checking boxes. It’s about growing through movement, play, connection, and exploration.

What’s your baby’s favorite tummy-time spot?

Out in the community!

I’m excited to be joining Logan’s Landing Project as a vendor at their upcoming Bee a Friend event!

I’m also really excited because this is the beginning of a collaboration with Logan’s Landing Project. Starting in October, we’ll be offering free community OT play and connect opportunities at the park.

The goal is to create a space where families can connect, find what helps them feel regulated, and engage through play. All are welcome 💛

I love the idea of bringing OT into the community in a way that feels natural, welcoming, and fun — and I’m really looking forward to seeing where this grows. 🐝🌱

I'll come to you! 🏠

Which means I bring A LOT of toys, tools, and activities with me.

But even with everything I bring through the door, there's one thing that matters most:

YOU.

You are the most important part of your child's world.

Pediatric OT isn't just about the activity we are doing or the toys we are using. It's about connecting, play, and creating opportunities for your child to explore, learn, and grow alongside the people they love most.

That's what Metta is about 😊
