Wynter has been doing so great with her hip and leg recovery! On Tuesday, her casts finally come off, and she’ll be fitted for her new AFOs. For the first time ever, we won’t have to struggle to get her feet into them—or keep them on!

In the past, her feet would slip right out of her braces without her even touching them. We’ve tried everything over the years: serial casting (which was supposed to last a Week the First set lasted 2 days the second the way home.), nighttime braces, several different styles of AFOs, and even large wedges. Now, after her surgery, we’re finally at a place where those struggles are behind us. She’ll even be able to wear regular AFO-friendly shoes instead of having only one specialized pair. That may seem like a small thing to many people, but for us, it’s a huge milestone.

It’s also hard to believe that Wynter is turning 7 years old next month! We decided once again to skip the big birthday party. Instead, I can’t wait to watch her face light up when she sees The Wiggles in concert for her birthday. I know it will be a memory we’ll treasure forever.

Wynter still loves books. She’ll sign ā€œbookā€ and hand you one after another, wanting you to read to her over and over. Her newest sign is ā€œagain,ā€ and she absolutely loves using it! She’ll also be homeschooled for the second year, and I couldn’t be more excited about everything she’ll learn. This year we’ll continue diving deeper into sign language, pretend play, colors, letters, numbers, and, of course, all of her therapies.

This fall, Wynter will also be traveling back to Orlando for Movement Lessons for the fifth time. We truly love this program and always enjoy seeing the progress she makes. Every session helps her gain new skills and confidence.

My greatest hope has always been to help Wynter become as independent as possible. Every milestone—big or small—brings her one step closer, and I couldn’t be more proud of how far she has come. She continues to amaze us every single day, and we can’t wait to see what this next year holds.

Update! Thank you all! She is doing well. Even the respiratory therapist was surprised she didn’t need any oxygen at all. As she said, even the typical kids usually do at least in the recovery room.

She got her some pink and purple casts for four weeks then we will come up here and get her new braces and shoes in which she will not have wedges anymore And the tape from her hip surgery can come off in a week. Tell them we will be living in bamboo shorts. Since they are so stretchy. She is awake now and back at our home away from home. Sitting up, watching Miss Rachel.

Good morning to you all! Please pray for Wynter and the team at Shriners as they perform surgery on her hips and legs early this morning. Thank you all.

Dear friends and family, we want to keep you updated on Wynter’s care. This summer, we have two important surgeries planned. At Shriners in June or July, we’ll address the progression of Wynter’s hip dysplasia with a bilateral gastrocnemius recession and proximal femoral guided growth using screws, along with short leg casts. Then, in July or August, we’ll go to Ohio for another surgery to help diagnose and check for EOE. And, as we’ve done every year, we’ll be returning to Orlando in November for movement lessons. As we plan ahead, we’re also starting to brainstorm some extra ways to bring in additional income to help with these expenses. Thank you all so much for your love and support—we’ll keep you posted every step of the way!

This girl has had a great therapy day at Shriners in Greenville, South Carolina. We are standing upright and walking way more with the changes and help of bamboo braces.

The Airbnb was a Last minute expense I wasn’t prepared for but, I was able to move some bill around and get it taken care of for the week. Oddly the airbnb was cheaper then a Motel/Hotel with shriners’s patient discounts. A $150 difference šŸ˜…

Half of the insulation was done today. We ran out so instead of asking for funds we are adding the list of two supplies that are needed to finish up the building. So far, everything has been out of pocket. But I know how huge this is going to be for the community. Thank you all so much! You can either buy the item outright or add any donation from five dollars and up via the Amazon gift card. Sadly, they won’t let you do any thing lower..
