Celebrating in Oregon means there's a LOT of bees to celebrate! With over 500 species of native bees and counting, each playing vital roles in their different environments, protecting pollinators and enhancing their habitats has never been more important. We say this often, but you can play your part by reducing pesticide and herbicide use and planting native species in your yard and garden. It really is that easy. And if you have just a porch or a balcony, a pot of coastal strawberry or a Nootka rose could create a few extra resources for your friendly neighborhood pollinators.

Common tree bark identification!

Birds can be amazing garden helpers 🐦 A few ways I try to welcome them:
🌳 Native trees and shrubs give birds shelter and insects to feed on
🐛 Caterpillars are important food for many baby birds
🪵 A little dead wood can support woodpeckers and other wildlife
🌿 Brush piles and shrubs give small birds safer places to hide
💧 Fresh water helps bring birds into the garden naturally
🚫 I avoid spraying when I’m trying to build a healthy backyard food chain
A bird-friendly garden can still look beautiful, it just needs a little habitat mixed in.

Join us this Wednesday from 11-6p for a community work party at Indigenous Farm Reconnect! 🌻

We will be supporting a local Chumash elder and her 95-year old mother in Creswell. Come for the whole day or drop in as you are able!

We’ll begin with an opening circle and opportunity for cross-cultural learning at 11:15am.

Then we’ll break out into groups for various tasks together (light construction projects, garden and forest tending, willow fence weaving, cob repair).

Around 5:30pm we will sit down for a shared potluck dinner!

WHAT TO BRING:
— additional hammers, nails, gloves, loppers, hand saws, hat/sunscreen…
— contribution for potluck dinner and/or snacks!
— old blankets to donate for the sweatlodge
— an open heart and mind!

Feel free to invite your friends! This is a great opportunity to learn some new skills, deepen your understanding of cultural etiquette for building healthy alliances, and network with some great folks!

We look forward to seeing you there—even if just for a couple of hours.
