Class is back in session! 👩‍🍳 🥬🌽🍎🫑🧄🧅🥕🥒

Week 1 of the September Teen Cooking Club kicked off yesterday with a lovely new crew! It was salad week, so we eased into our kitchen work by learning knife skills - how to properly hold a knife & how to use a chef’s knife. And we had loads of practice - from herbs (parsley, dill and fresh chives from the garden), to apples, cucumbers, peppers, corn, carrots, celery, and cherry tomatoes! So much chopping, we really put those knives to work! 🔪

Then we made bacon, chicken thighs and pasta to put together our yummy salads…but no salad is complete without dressing. So we learned how to make my McKibbon Hollow homemade ranch dressing to dress the salads!

We made the following yesterday, and family meal was DELICIOUS:

🥗: Dill Pickle Chicken Salad
🥓: Bacon Ranch Pasta Salad
🍅: Summer Pesto Cucumber Salad

Can’t wait for Week 2, Roast Chicken here we come!

The last of the big zinnias; the stems are coming down soon because they just look awful. 😞

I am loving this bucket o’ blooms, though! It did bring me such summer joy to have that many zinnias to choose from & decorate the house.

But alas, everything has a season. 🩵

Homeschool Momma’s, I created this with the thought that I would have loved to send my boys to something like this. So, this is for you!

Welcome to the ✨Teen Cooking Club✨September 2026 edition!

Have a home-school teen looking to be more prepared in the kitchen? Come join our 4-week tutorial on all things cooking held here at McKibbon Hollow.

In this drop-off tutorial, teens will learn the foundational basics of cooking and baking. Each week we will tackle a core element of working in the kitchen.

🥗Week 1: Kitchen Raw Basics (chopping, herbs, seasonings, salad dressings, & salads)
🍗Week 2: Whole Chicken Basics & Roasting Vegetables
🍲 Week 3: Bone Broth Basics & Soup Making
🥯 Week 4: Bread Basics (sandwich loaves, bagels, Hawaiian dinner rolls)

Each session, your teen will participate in learning how to cook the basics for the featured topic of the day. Your teen will receive a binder of recipes and resources (filled in each week), as well as enjoy a meal made together in class.

Required Session Dates (from 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.)

Students are provided with tools needed (apron, knives, cutting board, & groceries), with an option to purchase supplies at the end of the tutorial, if desired. No cooking or baking experience necessary to join the cooking club. Students must be between the ages of 11-16 years old to join cooking club!

Seriously considering becoming a Celosia farm next year! I’ve been so happy with the new varieties I grew this year, and friends, it’s the one thing I’m growing that is thriving in this heat (besides my plentiful bounty of Bermuda grass).

My forlorn zinnia patch looks like it won’t make it to September, given the heat damage and disease. 😩 Note to future gardener self: plant zinnias in July for fall blooms.

I learn something new every year - which the best part about gardening.

I am so thrilled to announce that the Teen BAKING Club will have TWO editions this fall - A September Edition & a November Edition! 🍪 🍰 🥧

Both editions will cover the same foundational information about baking - the September edition will incorporate fall flavors, and the November edition will incorporate more holiday-focused flavors.

Each edition will be a 4-week drop off tutorial on all things baking. Each week we will tackle a core category of baked goods:

🍰: Week 1: Sweet Treats (Cookies & Brownies)
🍞: Week 2: Cake Week (Bundt Cakes & Mini Cheesecakes)
🥧: Week 3: Pie Week (Pie Crusts, Par-Baking, Fillings)
🥯: Week 4: Breakfast Week (Cinnamon Rolls, English Muffins, Bagels, Biscuits)

Each session, your teen will participate in learning how to cook the basics for the featured topic of the day. Your teen will receive a binder of recipes and resources (filled in each week), as well as enjoy baked goods made together in class.

Required Session Dates (from 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.)

September Edition:
