PCOS is one of the most common hormonal conditions, yet many people don’t realize it can look very different from person to person.
As a family physician, I want women to know: you don’t have to fit a stereotype to deserve an evaluation.
Persistent acne, unwanted facial or body hair, hair thinning, irregular periods, or difficulty becoming pregnant can all be pieces of the puzzle. These symptoms do not automatically mean PCOS, but they are worth discussing with a healthcare professional.
Black women may face delays in diagnosis when symptoms are normalized or attributed to other causes. Knowing what to look for—and when to ask questions—can help you advocate for your health.
