Parents from 14 different countries came together in Dallas this week to share stories & information about Phelan McDermid Syndrome.
Also known as " 22q13" because it is a deletion/mutation on the long arm of the 22nd chromosome.
Kids affected have a wide range of affect... most notably are intellectually disabled, have no to little speech, mobility issues, low muscle tone, and feeding/gut issues among other , sometimes scary, health issues.
One session at the conference is the Moms session. It gives the Moms a safe place to vent, ask the scary questions, and feel like part of a true sisterhood.
A new logo was revealed to celebrate thus unique bond. Temporary tattoos were created & all the Moms were proudly sporting them. Some Moms felt like taking it a step further and making this symbol of sisterhood permanent!
Our kids will have this Syndrome the rest of their lives, so we felt like we should show our support for them permanently.
