VNA Texas - Meals on Wheels and Hospice

VNA Texas - Meals on Wheels and Hospice The Visiting Nurse Association of Texas helps people age with dignity and independence at home.

HOSPICE CARE

As Texas’ oldest, most experienced and trusted hospice provider, VNA Hospice Care is there when traditional medical treatments no longer offer the hope of a cure. VNA Hospice Care focuses on living life to its fullest and treating their patients and families with the dignity and respect they deserve. Their highly qualified and experienced doctors, nurses, hospice aides, social worker

s, chaplains, bereavement coordinators, and volunteers work as a team with the patient’s current doctor to provide care that meets the medical, psychological, social, spiritual, and practical needs of patients and families. Terminally ill patients often feel like they are losing control – VNA helps give them back the control they need by providing the necessary freedom to age their final days as they wish in a pain-free, loving environment. MEALS ON WHEELS

VNA’s passion for the hungry and homebound is unparalleled. Through their most well-known program – Meals on Wheels – VNA delivers nutritious, freshly prepared hot meals to 4,000 Dallas County residents Monday through Friday. These individuals are the hidden hungry – they are homebound and unable to access resources like food banks and grocery stores. With Texas having the 7th highest rate of hunger among seniors in the nation, it is easy to understand why supporting VNA is critical for our community.

Meet Ryan Jackson
Meals on Wheels Corporate & Community Engagement Liaison

As VNA Meals on Wheels' Corporate & Community Engagement Liaison, Ryan Jackson spends his days building relationships that help strengthen our mission and expand our impact across Dallas.

Originally from Tyler, Texas, Ryan moved to Arlington in 2019 to attend the University of Texas at Arlington, where he earned a degree in Communications with a focus in Public Relations. It was also where he met his college sweetheart, Jasmin. The couple recently got married and enjoys spending time with their three-year-old dog, Nova, exploring parks, pet-friendly spots, and drive-in movies.

Ryan's passion for community service started early through volunteer work with the YMCA, youth sports organizations, and Meals on Wheels while attending UTA. After internships with the State Fair of Texas and roles with GRACE and Ascend Dallas, he knew nonprofit work was where he wanted to be.

"I love seeing the impact organizations have on the community," Ryan says. "Building relationships with people and helping connect them to a cause is what I enjoy most."

In his role, Ryan works with corporate partners and community organizations to create volunteer opportunities, build awareness, and support VNA Meals on Wheels through engagement and giving. He especially enjoys sharing the stories behind our work and seeing people become passionate about serving others.

"Our volunteers are incredibly dedicated, and our staff feels like family. It's inspiring to be surrounded by people who genuinely care about making a difference."

Outside of work, Ryan is a dedicated sports fan and hosts the Lone Star 360 Podcast, which covers Texas high school, college, and professional sports. He also serves as Sponsorship Chair for the Texas Volunteer Management Conference.

We're grateful to have Ryan on our team and look forward to the relationships and opportunities he'll continue to create throughout our community.

Long time supporter and VNA board member Christi Morrow shared the story of her love and passion for VNA with MySweetCharity.

For more than 12 years, Christi has spent an hour a week delivering meals to homebound seniors across Dallas County, often alongside her husband, her children, and friends from Saint Michael and All Angels. As she puts it, “there is no better way to spend an hour than delivering food and friendship to a Meals on Wheels client.”

Thank you, Christi, for you supporting us with your time and talent.

We’re so grateful to MySweetCharity for spotlighting VNA Meals on Wheels this week — and to VNA Board Member Christi Morrow for sharing why volunteering matters so deeply to her. 💜 Grief Is More Than Loss—It’s a Journey. August is National Grief Awareness Month.
As National Grief Awareness Day approaches on August 30, let’s remember to lead with compassion. 💜

✨ Check in on someone you love. A simple “I’m thinking of you” can mean so much.
✨ Give yourself grace. Your grief is personal, and you don’t have to rush the process.
✨ Make space for support. Counseling, support groups, and trusted loved ones can provide a safe place to talk and heal.

Sometimes the greatest gift we can give someone who is grieving is simply to listen, acknowledge their pain, and remind them they don’t have to walk through it alone.

It can feel hard to talk about grief, but National Grief Awareness Day is changing the conversation. Learn more about the day and 9 tips to support yourself or others.
