Let’s talk spiders!

Are you a fan?

Let’s face it…nobody is excited to unexpectedly discover that jumpy 8 legged critter in your space. But really, after the surprise I hope you say thank you and give it a gentle lift to the great outdoors if you’d rather not have it in your home.

Spiders are great because they….

• eat a huge number of common pests, with one spider consuming around 2,000 insects a year!

• reduce the transmission of insect spread diseases

• serve in the food web as a vital source of food for birds, lizards, frogs, bats and small mammals

• have venoms which help scientists study treatments for chronic pain, muscular dystrophy and cancer

• create incredibly strong silk (I know, I walked through some today 😆) which has the potential applications for textiles, medical sutures, and more

• are generally safe, with only 2 of the over 3,700 species in the US are considered dangerous to most people

They really are working in our favor!
