Hey Friends,
So recently I have felt drawn to get back into my Nutrition Coaching, or even just providing some useful information for those that would be interested.
Through talking to a variety of friends, family and clients I have found , especially with the older generation, there is a huge gap for knowledge regarding , benefits of eating nutrient dense foods to improve quality of life & overall health.
As we get age, I think many people believe that pain, weight gain & various illness & ailments are inevitable.
They blame genetics for their health, never once wanting to point the fingers at themselves , their behavior, enviorment or poor lifestyle habits.
Often times , we neglect our health due due to stress from our careers, families, money and a variety of other factors, always thinking in the back of our mind that "When I retire , I'll start putting myself first again.
I can tell you from experience, I have working in healthcare for almost 8 years and the patients i see who do not prioritize their health and put money and their jobs and everything else imaginable , in front of themselves, usually never get to enjoy their retirement. They spend their days, debilitated and isolated at home, relying on the help of others to take care of them because they are no longer able to care for themselves.
I will say, the singe most important factor for your health is prioritizing your nutrition. This means eating alteast 3 balanced meals a day, prioritizing protein , moderate level of carbs and healthy fats . We shouldn't be skipping meals! When we skip meals our body goes into starvation mode or "fight or flight", it will hang on to fat as a protective mechanism and will prevent weight loss. Skipping meals also raises cortisol levels if done for an extended period of time . I'm talking about the individuls who eat one meal a day and then tell me they arent hungry .
You aren't hungry because your body has adapted to your current eating habits . You have also wrecked your metabolism by doing this.
I think alot of people, women especially have become afraid to eat . The older generation was taught "calories in calories out" which is not very accurate .
Most women should be consuming upwards of 2000 calories a day to maintain their current weight . Clientts of mind who have been under eating for years, I'm talking 1500 calories or less a day ( What a toddler should be consuming), I have them reverse diet SLOWLY to increase their calorie and energy intake.
Think of your car. If you are planning a road trip and your car is almost on E, how far do you think you will make it by the end of that day? My guess is not far!
Your body is a car . In order for it to run optimally it needs fuel, but not just any fuel , it needs nutrient dense fuel .
This includes: Lean protein, complex carbs, healthy fats, lots of water and electrolytes.
Protein should always be prioritized for each meal, protein keep you lean, help you build muscle. Proteins are the building blocks for our body!
My goal is usually 25-40 grams of protein for every meal!
In the photo below for bkfst: I have roughly 35 grams of protein which is optimal.
I'm not going to lie, there is such an abundance of mis information out here it is definetly hard to decide who and what to believe .
But if you are looking to change your life, change the way you feel and look, why not start making those small changes NOW!
There is no reason to be ashamed of the poor choices you have been making because honestly many people just don't understand how to eat well .
That's where I come in. I eat, sleep & breathe nutrition. It is my true passion and it has changed my life in so many positive ways .
