Welcome to my Friday Clair Series. Each week we will discover and delve into empathic Clairs. Perhaps you will recognize some of them in yourself. A person can have one or many Clairs. How many do you have?

Today's Clair is all about Clairalience – Clear Smelling

What it is:
Clairalience is the ability to receive intuitive information through scent with no physical source. For empaths it is a direct memory channel. You smell grandma's rose oil, pipe to***co, fresh bread, or a sudden floral when someone needs comfort or when a loved one in spirit is near. You do not smell it with your nose, you smell it in your inner senses, and it arrives whole and brief.
It is different from a memory trigger. A memory trigger comes from a real smell in the room. Clairalience is "I smell lilacs in the car in December, and then I know to call my sister."
When people first notice it
Most notice it early, but they do not have words for it.
• As a child: smelling cookies baking when no one is cooking, or smelling a grandparent's cologne right before feeling safe
• As a teen: a sudden scent of rain or pine before news arrives, and you know it means something
• As an adult: smelling roses, smoke, or clean laundry in a meeting, and later realizing it matched someone's unspoken grief or comfort need
The first clue is usually, "there is no source for this smell, and it brought a feeling with it."
How to develop it on purpose
You do not need to open it, it is already open. Development is about noticing, not imagining.
1. Scent scan twice a day. Morning and evening, close your eyes for 30 seconds and ask, what am I smelling that is mine? Learn your baseline so you notice when something clear arrives.
2. Name it in the moment. When a scent drops in, silently label: "clear smelling, rose, not mine, from this conversation." Naming creates space between you and the impression.
3. Practice with safe people. Sit with someone you trust and notice what scent, if any, pops in when they talk about a happy memory, then a hard memory. You are training your system to recognize the difference without making it up.
4. Clean after. Always use a release after practice, step outside for fresh air, sip cool water, or wash your hands and face. Development without cleaning is what makes empaths feel overwhelmed by phantom smells.
How to use it in real life
Once you can tell what is yours, clairalience becomes useful instead of confusing.
• In relationships: You smell lavender or vanilla when your partner is anxious but quiet, so you offer tea instead of questions
• In healing work or Reiki: You smell cedar, rose, or salt air over an area that needs attention, even if the client has not named it
• For self-protection: You smell something sour or metallic when something is off, and you trust it enough to pause or leave
• For compassion: You smell a comforting scent just enough to understand someone needs softness, then you let the scent fade instead of carrying the story
The goal is not to smell more, it is to smell clearly, then choose what you do with the information.

Here is a little experiment for this week: Do the scent scan twice a day, plus the fresh air wash after any crowded place. That alone should noticeably change your level of clarity.
I hope you enjoyed this informative post and should you have any questions feel free to DM me or just ask in the comments.
