The DFW Black Maternal & Breastfeeding Collective was founded through a partnership with a shared vision of creating stronger support systems for Black mothers and babies.

203 people walked through those doors, but the real impact is what walked back out with them.

Resources. Representation. Education. Connection. Community.

DFW Black Breastfeeding Week 2026 was bigger than an event. Families experienced our signature breastfeeding photoshoot, fertility through postpartum resources, wellness with BrainTap and chair massages, breastfeeding nutrition education, our Back to Work Station, community vendors, diapers and wipes, and giveaways intentionally placed into families’ hands.

This is what happens when organizations stop working in silos and bring their resources directly to the community.

Every sponsor. Every vendor. Every volunteer. Every donation. Every family who showed up helped us continue the mission of increasing Black breastfeeding rates and improving the health and wellness of the families we serve.

203 people. And an impact we believe will reach far beyond that room.

Blooming Through Community.

Sometimes you have to create the images you wish you saw more of.

And that is exactly how the founder, Andrea Carter of very first Black Breastfeeding Week photoshoot began.

Andrea wanted Black mothers, Black babies, and Black families to see themselves reflected in breastfeeding imagery, and that vision became a tradition that continues year after year.

In the U.S., only about 20% of Black infants are exclusively breastfed at 6 months. These photos are beautiful, but the legacy behind this celebration is bigger than a camera. It is about changing what families see, what they believe is possible, and the support available to help them get there.

Now year after year, we are documenting our stories while surrounding families with community, education, resources, lactation support, and connection.

The photoshoot started with representation. The legacy is the impact we continue building beyond the photos.

Let’s keep blooming Through Community, we all we got!

What if finding the support your family needed didn’t require hours of Googling, calling around, and trying to figure out where to start?

For one afternoon, we brought the resources into the room.

Families attending DFW Black Breastfeeding Week were surrounded by organizations supporting pregnancy, birth, postpartum, breastfeeding, mental health, fatherhood, wellness, and the needs that continue long after baby arrives.

Mayor Rachel Proctor Rachel L. Proctor also spent time checking out some of our vendor spaces and learning more about the resources represented for families in DeSoto and throughout our surrounding communities.

And there was A LOT to see.

We also intentionally made wellness part of the experience.

Attendees could sit down for a chair massage or experience BrainTap, a technology that combines guided audio with light and sound to create an immersive experience that supports relaxation, focus, and a calmer state.

Because maternal wellness deserves space too.

A doula.
A counselor.
Pregnancy resources.
Support for dads.
Community services.
Healthcare resources.
Lactation support.
A moment to simply sit and reset.

All in one room.

203 people walked through our doors that afternoon, but the bigger story is how many connections and resources walked back out with them.

Because access is more than having services available.

Families have to know those services exist.

And sometimes community looks like bringing all those doors into one room and making them a little easier to walk through.

We are so grateful to Simple Wishes for pouring into our families during Black Breastfeeding Week.

Simple Wishes donated pumping bras for our 9th Annual Black Breastfeeding Week celebration, helping us send families home with something that can make their pumping journey a little more supported and a whole lot more convenient.

Because when we talk about supporting breastfeeding families, we are talking about more than education. We are talking about making sure families have access to the tools and resources that help them continue reaching their feeding goals, especially as they navigate pumping, returning to work, and everyday life.

Thank you, Simple Wishes, for believing in this work and helping us continue to pour directly into our community.

What if a little more peace of mind could come home with you?

A HUGE thank you to Woddle for donating the world’s smartest changing pad as a giveaway for our 9th Annual Black Breastfeeding Week celebration.

As a NICU nurse and IBCLC, I immediately thought about the families who leave the NICU and suddenly go from around the clock monitoring to being home wondering, “Is my baby gaining? Are feedings going well? Are we making progress?”

Woddle brings several tools together in one place with:

🤌🏾Built in scale and growth monitoring
🤌🏾Feeding, diaper and sleep tracking
🤌🏾White noise machine
🤌🏾Night light
🤌🏾Warmer
🤌🏾The ability to share feeding information with your lactation consultant for continued support from home

Technology will never replace individualized lactation care or your baby’s healthcare team, but tools that help families stay informed, supported and connected can make a difference.

Woddle says it best: “Your peace of mind, delivered.”

Thank you, Woddle, for believing in our families and pouring into our Black Breastfeeding Week celebration.

And YES, some special registered families will be taking one home!

The official itinerary is HERE, and we are officially FULL.

Our 9th DFW Annual Black Breastfeeding Week Photoshoot & Event is just days away, and more than 200 of you have registered to bloom with us in community.

This year is about more than breastfeeding. It is about making sure Black families have access to information, resources, support, wellness, and providers who understand that maternal and infant health does not happen in a silo.

From our Community Spotlight and nutrition demonstration to our group breastfeeding photoshoot, Bloom With Community maternal health panel, and Back to Work demonstration, we have intentionally created an afternoon that pours into the whole family.

Please review the official itinerary before arriving so you know what is happening throughout the afternoon.

IMPORTANT: REGISTRATION IS FULL.

We will NOT have onsite registration or walk in availability.

9 years of celebrating Black breastfeeding.
9 years of creating visibility.
9 years of reminding our families that we do not have to navigate pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, postpartum, and parenthood alone.
