New Actualize feature idea for more human connection. Would love your feedback while in this formative step.

Short Story: I just reached out to friend who is the chair of the Colorado Symphony because i guess there is really amazing conductor coming to town, $200/ticket is out of my price range, and ive never been to a symphony. So i asked for a couple comp/gift tickets. I asked for two tickets, because id love to go with someone.

Im not in a relationship currently, and thought id be cool to be able to put this out there as an experience, kinda like a better classified ad honestly.

This could be romantic, friendship, a group activity or whatever. Post allows you to share about the experience, who with, desire, boundaries, etc. EG here is an example:

Offer: a beautiful evening at the colorado symphony, both tickets covered
Request: you buy dinner
Time: Friday Oct 16th or 17th
Boundaries: I dont kiss someone until ive known them for at least 3 weeks.
Experience: A beautiful evening of connection, adventure, and cultural experience at the colorado symphony
Desire: Connect, explore presence, aliveness, friendship, possible romantic relationship
Desired Gender(s): Woman
Communication Mode: Direct message

Then, if communication is direct message, it starts individual chat with that person. Actualize could even build in scheduling tools / video calls to support people connecting before going on an experience. If set to Group Communication, it starts a group chat thread, eg like if you were wanting to gather people to play sand volleyball.

To me this could open up a wild range of possibilities for helping people get off technology and connect more around in person experiences, connecting with others, that are supportive for their wellbeing.

What if the next step for Actualize isn't simply bringing our platform to more cities, but helping people create more connection, belonging, and community wherever they live? ❤️

We've been exploring this question deeply.

Over the years in Boulder, we've seen what can happen when people develop the skills to bring others together: meaningful gatherings emerge, relationships deepen, new facilitators step forward, collaborations form, and eventually something starts to feel like *community*.

But not everyone lives somewhere where this kind of culture already exists.

So rather than asking, "How do we launch Actualize in another city?" we're beginning to ask:

"How can we help one person, anywhere, begin creating more meaningful community where they live?"

One idea we're exploring is a small 3-month Community Builder cohort for people who feel called to bring others together, whether or not they already consider themselves facilitators.

We're imagining something that could include:

• practical facilitator guides and complete gathering formats
• weekly group learning + community calls
• monthly 1:1 coaching and support
• tools for creating deeper connection and meaningful group experiences
• support actually starting recurring gatherings where you live
• shared learning around invitations, venues, group dynamics, conflict, pricing, community growth, and more
• a community of other people around the country experimenting and learning alongside you
• Actualize's technology to support events, registration, discovery, and the community that grows around them

The goal isn't to promise that someone becomes a professional facilitator in three months.

It's much more human:

Learn how to bring people together. Practice doing it. Become more capable. Create something meaningful where you live.

Maybe you start with eight people in your living room.

Maybe it's twenty people at a local studio.

Maybe your gatherings are free. Maybe you eventually charge $10 or $20 to help make the time, care, and energy you're putting into community-building more sustainable.

You don't need thousands of people to begin.

One person gathers ten people.
They gather again.
Relationships form.
Someone else becomes inspired to facilitate.
More gatherings emerge.
Community begins to grow.

And Actualize can provide the infrastructure underneath what comes alive.

This represents a subtle but important evolution in how we're thinking about our work.

We don't think people fundamentally need another social platform.

We think people need connection. Belonging. Friendship. Meaningful experiences. Places to contribute. People they know and who know them.

Technology can help, but technology isn't the community.

People are.

So maybe the next stage of Actualize isn't primarily about getting more people onto a platform.

Maybe it's about starting with what people actually want: to feel connected, to belong, and to have real community.

We can help people build the capacity to create that together, with Actualize and our technology in its proper role: supporting the human relationships and communities that emerge.

We're still shaping what this could become, and we'd love your input.

We’re exploring some pretty significant changes to Actualize, and before deciding where we go next, we want to hear from you. 💛

One of the biggest possibilities we’re considering is making most of Actualize completely free to participate in, including posting events, offering services, sharing opportunities, discovering people and resources, and participating in the community.

Instead of charging people to participate, paid membership could focus primarily on optional personal AI tools designed to help connect your goals, wellbeing, calendar, relationships, events, services, and community.

But that's just one possibility.

We want to know what you actually want from Actualize. What would make you use it more? What should we build next? What isn't important? What concerns do you have about AI? And what are we not thinking about at all?

Hey yall, we are thinking about going to a required minimum $1/mo membership (with 1 month free trial). This essentially frames to "Actualize exists to serve its members. Our revenue comes from the people who use and benefit from the platform, not from harvesting attention or selling access to advertisers." and "Your membership ensures Actualize is accountable to its community rather than advertisers. Together we're building infrastructure that serves human connection, wellbeing, and belonging." Additionally - this creates an added layer of trust - less bots. It seems super reasonable this day and age for a $1/mo subscription, especially one that is actively working on improving our individual and collective wellbeing. What do you think?

Question - We are thinking it might be beneficial to enable event producers to link their Telegram account, which could auto-make a supergroup with different channels (like announcements, general, and ride shares threads), and then provide a link on ticket purchase for people to join the group. It could be set up that the group is specifically for the event, or a more general group for ongoing events produced by the event producer. We think this would support with communication and logistics for events and groups. Do you think this is something we should add?

Reprogramming human consciousness is generally not easy. Im reminded being at home with my parents, in the house I grew up in, that patterns developed from my childhood, like "this drawer has the silverware in it" are surprisingly hard to change. My parents re-did the kitchen maybe 8 years ago and the silverware drawer that has the silverware in it changed. I have been home countless times since, and yet I find myself still going to the drawer that used to have the silverware in it. This pattern is deep and has been hard to change - even in its gross simplicity. And that is in the physical realm, where it is a very clear yes/no, the silverware is here or it is there.

Extending to mental patterns, emotions patterns, or even belief systems... things that are a bit harder to define...seem like they are even more challenging to change. And they are what shape our lives and culture to a very high degree. Compassion, awareness, forgiveness, listening, and persistence are the tools in the tool belt to make these kinds of change. There is no pill, no quick fix, no magically changing over night.

Similarly, it seems cultural structures that have been passed down for generation to generation are even more deeply entrenched. Culturally held beliefs or even things like governance structures, take time to change, often only at the pace of older generations dying off. From the constitution that declared that all men are created equal, to the emancipation of slaves, to the end of segregation, to now where our culture is still struggling with racism...250 years later.

Punctuated equilibrium, when a society collapses and reforms, is always an option. But typically involves a huge "death" process. Maybe that is needed now...but I really hope not.

One of the deepest problems we face culturally right now is that our systems (especially technological) are changing at a pace that makes it hard for most people to adapt and to re-program patterns.

So what do we do?? If you ask me, evolution holds the key. Darwin said, "its not the strongest nor most intelligent that survives, but the one most adaptable to change". The pattern in nature that exemplifies this most is Horizontal Gene Transfer. Like when a bacteria adapts to a new antibiotic and then shares pieces of its DNA with other bacteria so they evolve to the new environment.

This happens not just at the bacteria level, but at multicellular organisms and even crazily enough between different species.
Socially, I believe we can do the same thing. But it takes individuals who are both finding solutions/sharing them, and most importantly, those who are willing to listen and integrate these codes. Without listening, discernment, and the openness to change, we are rate limited in our evolutionary process by the death of older generations.

This is why I believe Community now than ever is so important. Coming together, learning from each other, sharing codes. This is why I believe the elder youth dialogue is so important. This is why I have dedicated my life to the work that I do. Yes for the collective wellbeing, but "selfishly" because I want to live a life of belonging, meaning, and connection.

Actualize is meant to be a place to support this process. To bring people together, to share codes, to share resources...with intention and purpose of helping people create a life of more belonging, meaning, connection, and ideally less time on technology / more time in person.

Tikkun Olam - A phrase I heard, beautifully enough, from Mr. Rodgers. It comes from Hebrew - Tikkun meaning repair, restoration, correction, or alignment - and Olam meaning world, universe, reality, or age. Tikkun Olam can be understood as a multidimensional repair process: repairing self, repairing relationship, repairing governance, repairing economy, repairing relationship with Earth, and repairing meaning.

Mr Rodgers, more than anyone else that I can presently think of, embodied this. I have seen the documentary about him called "Wont you be my neighbor?" at least a handful of times and every time I cry.

I cry because I see what the goodness of humanity. I cry because I see the positive impact he made. I cry because I feel less alone in this journey of Tikkun Olam. I also cry because I see just how abusive the media ecosystem is towards our children.

While he is no longer with us, he has left a legacy. Whether you know of his work or not, he is someone worth learning about, learning from, being inspired by, and being reminded of that unwavering quality of Love that we all desire to both give and receive.

In a world of where we are bombarded by slapstick, action movies, hate, divisiveness, and illusion, this movie is a balm for the soul.

I cant recommend watching this movie enough and feeling this for yourself.
