We keep saying "just show people the data" — but data alone doesn't change minds. 📊
On the latest episode of The Healthy Project, Dr. Sarah Gollust and Dr. Neil Lewis Jr. break down why context and storytelling are what actually move people on health and racial equity — and why the communities most affected are often left out of the very research about them.
This one will change how you talk about health.

A couple of quick notes: TikTok and IG don't allow clickable links in captions, so "link in bio" is the move there — make sure your bio link points to the episode (or a Linktree). For the actual clip, a strong on-screen

On this episode of Coffee Can’t Fix Everything, I sat down with Ben McDougal to talk about originality, creativity, community, and the courage it takes to put your work into the world.

We also talked about his new book, Brewed From Within. I’m honored to be one of many contributing authors alongside a powerful group of voices.

We got into:

Being original in public
Building community through consistency
Creating without letting the numbers steal the joy
What it means to “ship the art”

Thank you to The Slow Down Coffee Co. for giving us a space to have these conversations.

Coffee can’t fix everything, but it can help us break the stigma one conversation at a time.

A simple check-in can be misinterpreted.

When expressing love or care, particularly between men, there's a societal fear it might signal distress. This misunderstanding highlights a critical need.

We must normalize expressing affection and support, especially for Black men, without it being seen as a sign of weakness or crisis. It's simply about human connection and love.

The power of community lies in its ability to amplify our impact. "The marvelous thing about community is that it enables us to help others in ways we couldn't help ourselves."

Surrounding yourself with a supportive community provides a vital safety net. When facing challenges, knowing you have people to lean on is essential. We are not meant to navigate life alone; connection is fundamental to our well-being.

The loneliness epidemic highlights a deep human need for belonging. We were wired for connection, not isolation. Embracing community is crucial for a fulfilling and resilient life.

My conversation on my podcast Coffee Can't Fix Everything with Christine Her, Executive Director of ArtForce Iowa, is now live on YouTube and all major audio platforms. We get into healing-centered engagement, generational trauma, community, and what happens when we ask “How are you?” and actually mean it.

The 2026 Public Health Week theme is Ready. Set. Action.
The Black Panther Party was doing exactly that — in 1968.
Free clinics in 12+ cities
Sickle cell screenings that led to federal law
20,000 kids fed daily before the government acknowledged child hunger
They didn’t wait for the system. They built what was needed.
That’s the history this field was built on. And it deserves to be seen.
