Trying to live inside liberation, not just write about it.

Towards What Hurt is available for preorder now and ships 9/8.

A ceremony in poems for the body, grief, survival, return, and becoming someone you do not have to leave.

If this work has held you, met you, or given language to something tender, I’d be honored for you to preorder a copy.

For those who are new here —

I’m adria. I write poems + essays on the body, grief, identity and becoming.

My work is rooted in the body. In what it remembers, what it survives, and what it slowly learns to trust again.

I’m interested in the language we reach for after rupture, the self we return to through grief, and the gentleness that becomes possible when we choose to stop abandoning ourselves.

My debut poetry collection, Towards What Hurt, ships 9/8 and is available for preorder now.

Stay if you are learning to become someone you do not have to leave 🫶🏼

Almost ten years ago, The Art of Yoga was my first offering in Detroit.

A room full of movement, music, art, breath, and community. A way to gather people in the city around the body and the imagination. A way to remember that healing does not only happen alone.

So much has changed since then. I have changed since then. But the vision still feels alive.

Lately, I’ve been thinking about what it means to bring this offering back to Detroit with more wisdom, more care, more resources, and a deeper understanding of what a room can hold.

The Art of Yoga was never just a class; it was a practice in collaboration, a love letter to the city, and a reminder that our bodies are also creative homes.

I’m dreaming about its return ✨

“Are you from America?”, a drunk white man asked as a group of us | young, Black, hot, and free | made our way to the next spot up Michigan Ave.

I stopped and stared. I’m ultra sober nowadays so there is more space between stimuli and my response.

In the Blackest city in America… are we from here?

Are you?

Detroit is in the future. Come with love or don’t come at all.

The body takes its sweet time. I'm still catching up. Towards What Hurt is available for preorder now.

Thank you for such a warm launch week ✨

Towards What Hurt is my heart in 102 pages, published by Radical Healing Press right here in Detroit.

I’m a woman born from a lot of pain and although I do not glorify suffering, I understand that not many of us were born with a choice.

For every action I take now, I reclaim lost parts of me, I give my shadow a home. It’s that deep.

In a world of numbed out individualism, I choose to go towards what hurt and what I’ve found is immense, it’s healing, it’s radical, and it’s ours.

Towards What Hurt can be preordered now.

Love,
Adria

Through my most recent recovery, through my never-ending confrontation with my own mortality, I decided to take decades of my interior life and put them somewhere they could be held.

I will not die holding this.

Towards What Hurt, my debut poetry collection, is available to preorder now.

This book is not wellness. It is a ceremony. Poems that do not flinch. That witness. That burn. That restore.

For the hurt and the healed. For survivors and seekers. For anyone who has chosen to stay awake in a world that rewards numbness.

Books ship September 8, 2026.
