Aesculapians Honor Society

We are an honor service organization at Wayne State University School of Medicine Our organization consists of approximately 50 members from all four classes.

Pronounced “es-kyu-LEY-pee-uhns” Aesculapians is an honorary service organization that is devoted to the city of Detroit and the WSU School of Medicine. Every March, new members are nominated and elected by their peers for their interest and participation in extracurricular activities. In addition to participating in many community programs throughout the year, the Aesculapians are also involved w

ith many medical school activities including First-Year Orientation, the Annual Alumni Telefund, and sponsorship of the ever popular Lampoons. The serpent is the symbol of Asculapius (Aesculapius) because it represented rejuvenation (renewal) as demonstrated by the periodic shedding of its skin. Many believed that snakes lived forever and that they helped discover health-giving medicinal herbs. According to one legend, a snake brought such herbs to Asculapius (Aesculapius) and to show his gratitude, he took on the shape of a serpent, too. The wooden staff was also designated as his symbol, because it represented his wanderings from place to place as he dispensed cures.

We at the Aesculapians Honor Society are so excited to announce our annual Lampoon 2026: THE JETS PIZZA BOWL: LAMPOON LXVIII 🏈🎭🎬🎤

This is a monumental annual event, with all proceeds supporting our Community Partner of the Year: Hey Y’all Detroit! Lampoon is a night full of entertainment from your fellow medical school peers - or should I say talented actors, performers, and wannabe comedians - showcasing short parody films, live skits, and interactive game show-style events for the audience. With the Super Bowl coming up on Sunday February 8th, 2026 the Aesculapians Honor Society is excited to host another Super Bowl Squares Fundraiser in support of our Community Partner of the Year: HEY Y’ALL DETROIT!

🏈 No football knowledge required!
This fundraiser is open to everyone, and the rules are simple—just pick your squares and you’re in!

How to Participate:

Squares are $6 each or 3 for $15

Aaaaaaand that’s a wrap, folks!! We had an AMAZING Lampoon 2025: Coming to you live, it’s SATURDAY NIGHT CALL (SNC)

Congrats to our to two of our most beloved faculty members for winning the Staff Award, Dr. Noreen Rossi, and the Lamp Award, Dr. Emma Cermak!

Thank you to everyone who donated their time and money all year towards supporting Downtown Boxing Gym. We were able to beat last year’s fundraising total for a WHOPPING $11,344.65+ raised!!!

And speaking of records broken, we surpassed attendance at last year’s Lampoon by 70+ tickets!! Check out our content on our YouTube (search for Aesculapians). Already looking forward to seeing everyone at Lampoon 2026!!
